Odonell ahead of ralston based on form this season is just ridiculous

posted on 3/11/21

I think most folk recognise that Ralston is a limited player - but his effort and commitment this season has been exceptional.

Ralston has been the most consistent Scottish right back

21 apps, 4 goals

part of the best defence in the league

very disappointing

I'll also be watching for any pushing in these european games.

Seems to be a hot topic.

only if you dont know the rules, but I believe someone educated you, so shouldnt be an issue

Who educated me?!

I knew immediately at the game - unlike some on here a couple of days after - that it was a penalty because the ball was in play.

I also liked this part in the rules:

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force.

So, a push on it's own isn't necessarily a foul.

Now, pay Fan his £100.

its says in the rules a push is a foul. No force was required By Furuhashi therefore any push is excessive force.

He pushed him, its a foul. deal with it.

disnae matter tho, cos ye missed the gifted penalty anyway.

I dont owe any fans anything

Really riding on the back of a dead horse with this isn’t he?

“Oh look. A wee push between competing players. Cancel that penalty and award a free kick. In fact; award free kicks every time a players pushes against another”.

Mental.

Know the rules indeed.

No it doesn’t. Quote that rule that says a push is a foul.

Clearly thought, that's not the case - or else it would say that any push is a foul. I can't think of any foul ever given for a push like that.

Clearly wasn't deemed to be either excessive, careless or reckless this push.

And there's not a chance that VAR would have concluded that either.

plenty of players have been booked for pushes exactly like that ... all the time. A player gets fouled and a stramash breaks out, pushes like this happen all the time and both get booked. why? cos a push of the ball like that is a foul. should it be (thats a different question) but like it or not its a foul.

I love how I am the only one constantly being accused of keeping this going, but the guys who keep replying or bringing it up (like on this thread ait).

tim logic!

No you didn’t. You quoted a rule. That rule does not state a push is a foul (as in every case).

I've not accused you of anything. You are choosing to keep it going right enough. No one mentioned you, yet you dived in two footed.

And in the example you give, clearly the ref deems a stramash to be excessive. That was why I expressly mentioned a push like the one by Kyogo. If you can't see the difference, then it's probably just as well that you're not a ref. I have never seen a ref give a foul for a push in a similar situation to that of Kyogo. The Livi manager says the same. The ref and assistant ref appear to agree.

OK WhothefckIusedtobe, let's humour you.

Watch the full incident again https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59019297

The first push is by the Livi #4 on Furuhashi - no eye on the ball, shoulder barges him right out the way.

Penalty to Celtic.

Correct decision.

On our european game - I imagine that without Rogic and Starfelt we'll struggle a bit. Getting a draw would be a decent result for me.

Rangers shouldn't have any problems. Brondby don't seem to be any great shakes, and were described as being the worst side any Scottish team has faced in Europe so far this season.

From what I read it was put up as a jibe. You reacted in continuing to try and defend a nonsensical point which when you’ve tried to back it up quoted a rule and interpreted it to suit yourself. There is no rule that states every “push” is a foul. That’s just a nonsense and the game could never function that way.

I think the whole debate is comical and yes I indulge from time to time.

It was a penalty on Saturday. “Deal with it” to use your own parlance.
