Can Rooney keep Derby up?

What kind of football do they play?

Would some of our players benefit from a loan move there as character building. See what proper pressure is like.

I don't really now how they play. All I know is that Ravel plays for them and Mengi was on loan there last season.

Kash has been silenced

I think Derby will just come up short but would be delighted for Rooney if he pulls this off.

It’d be an impressive achievement for them to stay up looking at all their problems. Seems unlikely but you never know. Are they even allowed to make any loan signings?

If he keeps them up then he will deserve a shot at a Prem club, would be a remarkable achievement.

However, it is worth noting that they have played more games than nearly all of the bottom half

I only see the results really. They seem to be doing OK under the circumstances. Even in what must be a seemingly hopeless cause they're keeping going which is to their credit.

Yes, but based on their average points per game, they have a chance (if they can improve a little). A quick look through the last few seasons says on average you need around 44 point to stay up. Although 41 points would have been enough in 15/16 season, yet Blackburn went down with 51 points in 16/17.

It is quite funny that Barry Smith took over Dundee who had a 25 point deduction, leaving them 20 points adrift at the bottom of the table. He then took them on a 23 game unbeaten run despite only being allowed to register players for 2 games at a time. So he used a fan and a 50 year old over the season. Dundee finished in 6th. Can Rooney emulate his hero Barry Smith and keep Derby up? We shall see.

A 21 point punishment is incredibly harsh too. Like they can realistically come back from that. 10 pts should be the max and then transfer ban perhaps if further breaches are found. Deducting 21pts is essentially just making their finances worse.

They’d actually not be that far off the play offs if they hadn’t got the points deduction.

They have had a few good results in recent weeks and are have won 3 of their last 5 games. The other 9 teams in the bottom 9 have all only managed 1 win at best in their last 5. If they can build up a head of steam and create a siege mentality, they might just stay up. It will be interesting to keep an eye on.

I doubt even Pep or Klopp could keep derby up.

Ultimately it will likely be too big an ask. But a couple of good loan signings in the window might make the difference. Maybe Amad could go and help out? I would suggest Elanga too, but it seem to be like he is seen as part of the 1st team squad now. Perhaps Hannibal would be an option?

Rooney is doing a great job.
Without the points deduction, they would be sitting comfortably in mid-table and 8 points off the playoff places. That is very good considering the lack of players at the start of the season. They scrapped staying up last year, which shows you the level they were at before Rooney took over. Even if they get relegated it won't have been because of Rooney's management.

Would be interesting to get some views from the Derby fans, perhaps admin could tag it on there, Elvis?

Yes he will. And then he will be installed as the new England manager after Southgate fails at the World Cup when we get a more difficult draw.

I’ve been on the Derby board a few times lately to show solidarity with the fans. Disgusting that the team should be made to suffer because of the corruption of the former owners.

The Derby fans love Rooney and are full of praise for his loyalty when he could easily have walked, after the financial shenanigans came to light.

They are very happy to stick with Rooney even if they go down. I wish them well.

Bit harsh, didn’t think my comment needed deleting for that suggestion.

I was thinking more along the lines of a ban to be honest.

I could understand that if I asked to have it put on the Liverpool board.
