A must win or the season is basically over and we will be looking over our shoulder rather than up the table. Unlikely to better eighth now as it is but my crazy notion of eleventh to fourteenth would still very much be on the table with a slip up in this one.

The selection seems obvious for the most part.

Sa
Kilman, Coady, Saiss
Jonny, Neves, Moutinho, Ait-Nouri
Neto, Jimenez, Podence

I'd go with that but I'd still bring Boly in for Kilman. Once Kilman has got his head together I'd leave Boly where is and slot in Kilman in his natural position on the left. Saiss can return to being a utility player, if he doesn't want a new contract, feck him, he can feck off.

Boly hasn't played all season. He wasn't brilliant last season when he played. I think we are unlikely to see him to be honest.

Yeah, I think any hopes of Boly being the same player are a long way off. Add to that he isn't fully match fit yet then it would be a surprise to see him start.

That said, after yesterday, who knows what Bruno is thinking. Kilman looks like he needs a break, been awful the last two games.

I wouldn't mind us just fecking this season off and prepping for the next and going with a back four if need be and trying something different up front.

Neto and Jonny both looked really rusty yesterday so to bring Boly in as the third player recovering from long term injury would be a risk. But then these players stand no chance of recovering their form unless they play games.

Was at the game yesterday and, though I'm not one who has pressed for a back 4, we did look comfortable when we employed it yesterday. Having said that it was only for the last 11 or 12 minutes when we needed to push forward and Palace had, as far as they were concerned, already won the game.

Might be worth a try starting with a 4 against Watford I suppose, bring Kilman or Boly on if it looks like going pear shaped.

Grasshoppers got pumped at home 4-2 this time but only two of ours started this one in Bolla and Kawabe with Kawabe scoring one. Seong Bin came on as did Bonatini. Herc scored the other, a name from a few years back for us.

Check out Vitinha at around the 2;57 mark in the build up to the third goal. We had this guy with us a year ago for feck sake, he is a star in the making.

Evidently Hoever had expectations that he would be starting this season on a par with Semedo and would get plenty of first team chances. Been an unhappy bunny on the training field when those chances weren’t coming. Not putting it all in when training, then when he did get a chance he picked up a hamstring injury which according to the medical staff was because he hadn’t been working hard enough on his fitness. Hence Bruno being angry with him. Seems like a player that’s fast burning his bridges with this manager

Bit harsh that Gem Lad, second longest current player.
Can't begrudge him a last fling somewhere else, probably still better than some that will stay.
I personally hope he will stay.

Yeah no problems with Saiss being ready to move on. Love him but him still being a first choice shows you where our transfer dealings have been hopeless for a couple of years.

Other think about Hoever is that contrary to modern opinion, getting a public boll o' king doesn't have to mean you're finished. Take it on the chin, learn from your mistake and put it right. I've read loads saying that Lage cant play him again after Saturday's comments. Blood cancel culture!

It doesn’t mean Hoever can’t play again but I don’t think comments like those needed to be made in public. Much better to deal with behind closed doors from everyone’s point of view

I believe Mourinho may have gone for public boll oking but personally I don’t think it is good management
The fact that he was played when they knew he had not been trining well adds to my concerns about the manager, I appreciate his options were limited especially as we know RAN had a niggle but he did have some, eg back 4

I guess time will tell whether Bruno got that call right with Hoever, it might be the kick up the backside he needs, it might not.

Spiers was saying in the Athletic that Hoever is a fairly quiet reserved character, not a problem guy at all but maybe lacking in the kind of drive that is required to be a top player. Im guessing that's why Liverpool were prepared to let him go and why its lead to this public dressing down.

All the best Gem by the way, I think your op was around about today if I recall. Im sure you'll be back to match fitness quicker Semedo.

Whether its a sign of the situation with Hoever, but did read that he has taken down his reference to being a Wolves player from his twitter profile. There's certainly no reference to Wolves on there when I looked this morning, but maybe there never was, I don't know

posted on 8/3/22

The absence of both Semedo and Hoever kind of forces Bruno's hand with regard to recalling Jonny on Thursday. Don't see any alternative, hope he's ready for a 90 minute spin.

posted on 8/3/22

Still about 600 tickets left in the Graham Hughes stand for Thursday if anyone can tear themselves away from their sofa

posted on 8/3/22

I would guess Jonny may start, but whether he'll be good for 90 minutes is a valid question. Coady's played right back before, could go back to a back four and to the days of Lambert. Maybe one of Marcal or Ait Nouri could switch.

posted on 8/3/22

May as well start Jonny and when he tires it will coincide with us needing to switch to a back four to try and get back into the game.

Barca already saying they probably won't be able to afford Traore in the summer.
