Like everywhere there are racists who would cry at the thoughts of asylum seekers being accommodated here but in the main we're a pretty laid back welcoming bunch.
It’s interesting how those supposedly far more liberal, understanding, humane and cleverer, are the ones who resort to vile name calling and such.

This initiative will also be a positive step in disrupting the business model of the gangs and traffickers who are responsible for these crimes of shipping people illegally across the channel
It’s about time we’ve had some decisive action on this matter
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The UK already took decisive action on the matter in the formulation of its Brexit agreement with the EU.
Unfortunately, it decisively made it much, much easier for criminal gangs to operate between the continent and GB

I don't think so.
The Tories and right wing media propagate this lie to keep people scared and voting for them and it works so well. Like if we open the door they will all come here. Bullsheet.
Majority of refugees on this planet do not want to come to the UK to freeze their arris off in the winter. We can't even get footballers to stay.

Are you sure the number is 30 thousand? I'd double check that if I was you.
Anyway, they can't stop them all. Those are the ones that get through the dragnet. They have patrols and intelligence to keep these crossings down to the numbers we see. They spend a lot of money to do it when they could spend the money elsewhere and let UK deal with its own problems.
They do not owe the UK any favours now that we are not in the EU
Also, are you aware that boats come from other countries too?

It’s interesting how those supposedly far more liberal, understanding, humane and cleverer, are the ones who resort to vile name calling and such.

Yeah that's the worst thing about this thread, petal.

Said nobody.

People like RDD and Rev would probably have been in favour of the final solution.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which is weird, because they’d not have avoided the camps given the Naziii’s disdain for the mentally disabled.

This initiative will also be a positive step in disrupting the business model of the gangs and traffickers who are responsible for these crimes of shipping people illegally across the channel
It’s about time we’ve had some decisive action on this matter
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To the detriment of the asylum seekers themselves?
Genius move.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well it’s Europe’s responsibility to then filter through the true asylum seekers rather than turning a blind eye and allow anyone and everyone to just illegally chance it across the channel
----------------------------------------------------------------------
France do not allow people to cross the channel.
In fact, they stop a lot of people from crossing the channel.
Do some research lads
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They let (fail to stop) approx 30k per annum cross
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you sure the number is 30 thousand? I'd double check that if I was you.
Anyway, they can't stop them all. Those are the ones that get through the dragnet. They have patrols and intelligence to keep these crossings down to the numbers we see. They spend a lot of money to do it when they could spend the money elsewhere and let UK deal with its own problems.
They do not owe the UK any favours now that we are not in the EU
Also, are you aware that boats come from other countries too?

Economic migrants once they are safe and start making choices about where they want to settle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have not one crumb of a clue what you’re talking about, do you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I know the difference between seeking safety, and deciding which country you fancy living in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What about which country you fancy seeking safety in?

In light of his 'On your Bike' speech, I wonder what Norman Tebbit's views would be on economic migration?

I doubt those genuinely seeking refuge are thinking about where they can get the better cup of coffee or have an old school friend.
