These kind of articles are always hilarious. So far on the No-I-didn’t-take-Politics-101-so-what bingo card we’ve had:

“The only alternative to apex capitalism is communism!”

“Only billionaires drive innovation!”

“All wealth generated by legal means is morally justified!”

“Employing income ceilings is communism!”

Grate stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you took a few comments and turned them into fallacies.

I'm not asking Bill Gates thinks it justifiable, because clearly he does.
Yes he gives a lot to charity, but it would be the same if he didn't.
But do people think he earned it, deserved it. Would it have been better if he had been restricted to a billion say, and the rest going to social problems, or cutting the price of Windows for example.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows is basically free
----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Makes you wonder how Gates is so rich if he basically gives away a valuable commodity for free.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Generates over $20bn per annum in revenue for Microsoft = “basically free”
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said basically free. It wasn't when he started out, but I did not have to pay for W10 and now not for W11 because I had paid for XP. And I was speaking for me as a home consumer responding to a comment that the price of Windows should be cut. Also, any PC and Laptop comes with Windows pre installed, the price is included in the purchase, which is really not much extra. And Microsoft does sell a facking lot more than only Windows

You can buy legal licences to Office 2021 for 30 euro, which would normally cost 250 euro.

Sat nav so true! It has lifted more people out of poverty than any other system! When I hear people talk about communism It’s insane. Did they not see the genocides?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
C'mon let's be reasonable. If you're blaming Communism for genocides you have to blame world wars on capitalism. Both might be valid to an extent, but neither are helpful or informative to the discussion around wealth inequality.

To be fair, most on here don’t want communism just much higher taxes for ‘the rich’ to subsidise education, healthcare and living wages for the entire nation. Not that ‘the rich’ don’t already contribute far more than the average tax payer but that’s conveniently forgotten.

There are some who advocate for policies that certainly get close to state control such as eroding private property rights or perhaps limiting the amount of wealth that an individual can accumulate.

It’s the boring & predictable obsession with looking to the Nordic countries to be held as some shining light for us all to behold.

It might be boring, but is it true.
Well every year there is a poll to find the happiest people, and every year a nordic country wins it with the others well up there.
The rich tend to have their money in tax havens not the UK so paying less than a plumber

It's 'boring' to look at countries where the people are happy and try to understand what they're doing right? You're an idiot.

I don't think it's forgotten at all, people just think a lot of the rich have more money than they could ever spend in multiple lifetimes so why not put it to use via taxes.

I’ve been on politics threads on this site for the best part of a decade, and I don’t remember seeing a single post - let alone a single person - advocating a totalitarian communist system even once. Not ever.

So who are you talking about here?

People are talking about sensible taxation, implemented via policies the likes of which have been seen at various times in market-based democracies in all corners of the world. Nobody is talking about Soviet-era communism.

Most genocides happen under capitalism.

Lifted people out of poverty? Define poverty.

You’re an idiot for not having the faintest idea of what variables are at play for this type of discussion.

Billionaires, taxes, higher taxes, higher taxes in Scandinavia that must be why they are happier so let’s adopt their policies and we’ll be happier too.

You have to define rich people mate. The top 1% pay around 28% of all income tax receipts in this country.

You are also incorrectly linking happiness with income inequality/higher taxes and thinking that it’s a one size fits all. It really isn’t.

For a start - those countries have populations of either 5m or 10m - UK is around 70m.

Being anti capitalism doesn't mean you are pro communism. This debate is often hounded by that. Hardcore capitalists always bring up communism during these debates, and its as if they're arguing with a communist.

Capitalism is a failure in its own right.

Why are you replying to me with that above? I literally just corrected UWW about people not actually wanting communism.

Capitalism is imperfect in its own right but I would take its imperfections over socialism or communism - every day of the week and ten times on Sunday.
