As long as the players pay tax on the money they received there won't be a problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope. The employer has to pay tax also on the money they pay out.

Having Sheikhs and the Saudi regime is okay for our FA but apparently Wayne Rooney helping out some young academy players to get paid when the club is skint, nearly out of business and had a 21 point deduction already is a step too far.

Please make it make sense.

Big money can dictate to smaller money. Simple.

Feck me, an article about Rooney’s time at Derby and the author doesn’t even tag it to the Derby board?

Then to cap it off the Notts Tory is all over it like a dose of the clap. 🤦🏼

This.

There's a good chance that the players are also self employed.

They can sign a contract with anyone who offers employment, don't need to be a sole contractor, lots of players have interesrs outside of football and sign a contract with that employer.

He was so good when he broke through it’s a shame his career went flat and ended early.

At 30 he played like he was 36

Just to reiterate, you think footballers are on the PAYE system and self employed people don't sign contracts?

Was his Agent who had links to prospective owner Kirschner. So was probably paying on behalf of Kirschner.

Either way no gong to do with Rooney

Nothing *

Although I don’t doubt Rooney is the sort of person that would do that. Excellent manager and excellent person

All footballers pay from clubs is subject to Paye and NI.

Well, their contracted wage. It’s why they try and negotiate image rights more as they get taxed less for that.

Subject to Income Tax and NI but I doubt any work on a PAYE basis.

They all legally have to for their contracted salary, if they don’t it’s in breach of the FA rules.

Well yes, as explained on the linked 'Taxscout' website. They presumably set-up a limited company for their 'image rights' and pay 19% corporation tax on the profits of that business.

HMRC may have something to say if all the revenue into this limited company comes form one (or a very few) source(s), however!

The only problem is some then get greedy and start 'offshoring' the business profits in an attempt to pay no tax at all.
