Casemiro - world class destroyer to help protect the questionable defensive solidarity
Martinez - a tenacious ball playing CB
Eriksen - a creative spark capable of playing the style ETH expects
Malacia - a highly rated young LB, energetic up and down
Antony - another starter for Brazil, young who appears to have all the tools in his kitbag capable of going on to be a great on the right wing
-------------------------------------

I think Utd have done well overall, mainly because of the Casemiro signing.

Antony is not a starter for Brazil though, I hadn't heard of him until recently, so no way he starts when they have the likes of Neymar, Vinicius, Jesus, Raphina, Richarlison, Martinelli etc.

I would have liked a better midfielder than Eriksen if I was being too critical.

If I had to guess I think Brazil will go with something like this at the world cup in attack:

Raphinha Paqueta Vinicius Jr.
Neymar

Martinelli

I liked how you lumped him in with those players who have played a load of games for Brazil and he's had three sub appearances.

This.

Was happy with the addition of him to the squad when I thought he’d be an extra, Mata replacement almost (when I believed FFJ would happen).

He won’t help us control many matches in midfield though imo.

Maybe Brazil will give Anthony the nod now he’ll be lining up next to their first choice midfield pairing too.

Yeah despite starting the last couple I watched Coutinho after picking up form for Villa has gone off form again. Think above will definitely be the front four. They now have some good back up across the front also where they had been lacking in the previous few years. Rodrigo, Antony, Richarlison and obviously Jesus who has been around the squad for several years.

That will depend on how they do for their new clubs in the first half of the season I'd imagine.

Raphina already looks very well settled in that Barca side.

That's probably true for Casemiro also as obviously Fabinho is next behind him and a couple of years younger. Would be looking at alterntives to Fred myself but he doesn't have much competition for that box to box role. Guamires who just signed for Newcastle perhaps.

Coutinho won’t be in the squad.

If I recall rightly Tite made changes from game to game in the Copa America, so it’s hard to predict a starting line up, but that’s the four I’d fancy to start the first game.

Though Neymar being injury prone is a problem with my prediction. Jesus maintaining his form will be big for them, especially when Richarlison is on the bench for Spurs.

Them and Argentina are looking good to finally get the world cup back off Europe.

Yeah Brazil were severely lacking options across the front for a few years and now have loads of options. Defence isn't a strong now however and may be a problem when up against defensive sides. Like England for example

I still can't believe they signed all those players. Makes a mockery of the La Liga rules that they were able to get around them. Surely what they did to get around them puts the club a risk, which should be the thing that the rules are there to prevent?

Once Ansu Fati is fully fit, Raphina will be spending a lot of time on the bench.

Martinelli will be massive for Brazil going forward, but not so much at this tournament I imagine.

Brazil’s defence is their biggest strength under Tite. They hardly ever concede.

posted on 29/8/22

Unless Martinelli becomes a striker, he’ll be a bench warmer for Brazil for most of his career.

posted on 29/8/22

If we can get rid of Ronny and bring in a backup striker, I'd rate the windows as an A.

The players that have left also being a major factor in my grade.

This. Many overrated the signing of Eriksen. His performances so far have been kind of how I expected them to be.

He's unfortunate that his best position is the same one Vinicius plays, true, but Martinelli can play anywhere across the front 3.

My guess is that Brazil will start the tournament with Vinicius, Neymar and Jesus (on the right) as their front 3.

We were never going to fix everything in one window but happy enough with it. Would like a CF though.

Obviously we're all on tenderhooks waiting for the Dubravka deal to be completed. Surely the most exciting transfer of the window in the entire league.

posted on 29/8/22

Eriksen could possibly improve with someone like Casemiro in front of the defence. Possibly the likes of Fred too could have more to his game.

Yeah...there's a difference playing European teams and South American teams in qualifying however. You could say England's defence of Trippier, Maguire, Stones and Chilwell is outstanding for example but they're up against poor teams in qualifying.
