Celtic Liverpool

It's nonsense. The PL just decided not to play the games because they worried about the media reaction, which they knew could potentially be brutal. I think they should have played but to blame it on potential for fan disrespect is nonsense tbh.

Can you really envisage a meeting involving all clubs where somebody actually says "Liverpool fans are going to boo the minute's silence. Let's call it off"? And the representatives of Liverpool saying "yes, good point, let's call the fixtures off." It's extremely insulting to the football club and I doubt anybody would have mentioned it, and I'm even more doubtful that Liverpool FC would accept such a rationale.

Tbh there was probably more potential for unsavoury scenes at Celtic, in fact I'd say it would be nearly certain. But I still think it unlikely that the fixtures were called off due to that likelihood. Celtic fans not being keen on the Queen and Royal Family is hardly breaking news

"Unsavoury" should have been in quotations in previous comments btw. There may have been some booing and singing amongst some of the crowd but nothing more than that imo

There was fake new on here claiming some scheite about Celtic being the only club not to 'black and white' their club crest on their website when that is exactly what they did for the aforementioned condolences announcement.

Weird royalist fvcks trying to stir up chit.

I heard that Rangers were actually the only Scottish Prem team to black out the crest anyway, and had a look and this appears to be true. So it's a load of stirring nonsense anyway

Which is surprising, given that they’d probably play on a field of the corpses of 50% of the country if there was money to be made.

That's not the line being spread by some of our Scottish media but then they are as polarised as the rest of society here.

We’d have had a section of our support would have loved the opportunity to show themselves up. They frequently do.

The club usually does the minutes applause thing which works well.

In other words, some keyboard warrior who wants to stir the sheite. Many will choose to believe him but not for a second did all the leagues down to grass level get cancelled because of us and Liverpool. Utter garbage.

It’s clearly not the reason football was postponed.

But..

People keep talking about how letting the games play would have been an opportunity to show respect, and to celebrate the Queen’s life… you just know the ficus would have been on the inevitable poor behaviour of Liverpool fans during the minute silence.

Maybe it’s a blessing the games were postponed.

Utter utter nonsense. The minutes silence for someone’s passing would have been respected - if you have any contrary evidence it would have been great to back up your point to show it.

Paying adoration homage to the continuation of the monarchy through “God save the king” would not have been respected though - no need to have it.

As per Ging, cancelling grass roots and all the way down to kids football? Utter utter crap.
Why should people go about their daily lives and their much loved activities and entertainment when they can instead be told that the monarchy is more important?

That’s the real reason right there. Football is cared about, and is held in higher regard by the public than the monarchy, and they hate it.

Ask yourselves which you give a bigger crap about.

That’s it in a nutshell.

Utter nonsense?

Well, my view is based on the fact that Liverpool fans never respect the national anthem and openly brag about rejecting the monarchy.

It’s hardly a leap to suggest that a minority of fans in the ground may not respect a minutes silence for the queen or indeed chant something inappropriate during the game.

You call it nonsense based on what, exactly? Hurt feelings?

It would not have been 'poor behaviour'. It would have been people making their feelings known about the world's biggest and most successful criminal enterprise.

And if you keep posting your nonsense I'll come down there and take your house off you. In fact you need to pay me £50 a week from next Friday or you're getting a doing.

I agree with you, I've been to a few finals with Liverpool over the last couple of decades and the booking of the national anthem only seems to get worse. I like to think that they would of honoured any tribute had games gone ahead. I have no idea if they or Celtic were involved in the decision making process nor do I mind the games being cancelled.

Just FYI, my other half isa Scouser, born and bred, Irish Catholic background, has never had time for the monarchy and only really shows an interest in the club if they are playing my team, and of course she wants Liverpool to win. I know she would not boo the anthem even though she doesn't agree with the Royal Family.

Football was so afraid of doing the wrong thing that they failed to do the right thing.

I’ve no doubt that some of our fans would have taken delight in singing something inappropriate or booing. I can’t speak for Liverpool fans.

No doubt it would have disgusted many and the press would have been all over it. As well as indignant posturing from opposition fans.

Bit millions would have been able to show respect in the time honoured tradition whilst maybe also having the opportunity to show the rest of the world what we can do.

They were all denied that over the weekend.

If some hearts fans ‘disrespected’ the silence then it’s fair to say there would be similar everywhere.

There are protesters and “anti” brigades at everything.

Football in the main missed a fantastic opportunity to give millions of fans the chance to show respect.

You don’t cancel entire events for the great majority because of the potential actions of a relatively small number of disrupters.

Well, unless it comes to football.

And do you not think that when it does start up again, the minute’s silence won’t be equally disturbed by these idiots? Of course it will. And now we’ve given them the chance to think up new insults to sing out. We’ve just delayed the inevitable.

It wouldn’t suprise me this is the reason for the football being cancelled and im not suprised Liverpool are a big factor in this.

I don't feel deprived of the opportunity to show my respects at all. I miss the games this week particularly given what happend at Chelsea. If football goes ahead next week we still can, funnily enough we are down to play Liverpool at the Bridge and I'll be there, if it goes ahead.
