I do think Donny is probably done. The only thing I'd say in his defence is I think he's a player whose off the ball movement is critical to his game and therefore so is being on the same wavelength as his team-mates. In the league defeat to Villa I saw him making quite a lot of good runs and no one ever passed to him. Surround him with a bunch of Ajax trained players who are also running off the ball and he'd probably look better. A few months into ETH's reprogramming, and with Ronaldo dropping sluggishly into the wrong spaces, demanding the ball, and it's obviously going to not show him at his best.
He's yet another player we bought without really understanding his profile or having a proper plan how to use him. But all that said, I don't think he'll make it.

Agree with this completely. Donny doesn't "hide" as some are claiming; he makes really good subtle runs and movements into space and wants to play quick one-twos. He's not a Bruno or Eriksen type player that will come and seek the ball to make stuff happen (hence his much lower number of touches per game). Despite the clear development of our play, we're still fairly direct with players like Bruno wanting to hit the early killer ball, Rashford looking to chop inside, shoot and Ronaldo being Ronaldo etc.
Donny just gets bypassed when we play this way, and he's neither adapted his own game to suit nor really been given the opportunities within the context of a strong first 11 previously. He's simply not going to get in ahead of Bruno and making cameo appearances isn't going to benefit him or the team. He needs to leave.
On Maguire... he's playing below his best level which is maybe making people think that he's worse than he is - his confidence looks low. That said, he exudes panic when things are going on around him, both with & without the ball. Varane & Martinez have a certain air of assertiveness, composure & class that is a clear upgrade on Maguire and he's another that I think should probably be moved on in time.

I do think Donny is probably done. The only thing I'd say in his defence is I think he's a player whose off the ball movement is critical to his game and therefore so is being on the same wavelength as his team-mates. In the league defeat to Villa I saw him making quite a lot of good runs and no one ever passed to him. Surround him with a bunch of Ajax trained players who are also running off the ball and he'd probably look better. A few months into ETH's reprogramming, and with Ronaldo dropping sluggishly into the wrong spaces, demanding the ball, and it's obviously going to not show him at his best.
He's yet another player we bought without really understanding his profile or having a proper plan how to use him. But all that said, I don't think he'll make it.

Butcher, I cannot fathom your support for Donny. We were all excited when we signed him, plus he seems a nice guy eager to fit in.
But he has done nothing for us, it maybe because it's not a system that suits, we'll hard luck, but he's contributed nothing in two years.

Well it's quite simple really. People who said Fred wasn't good enough are accused by yourself of being wrong to write him off. A few months into ETH's reprogramming, and with Ronaldo dropping sluggishly into the wrong spaces, demanding the ball, and it's obviously going to not show him at his best.
He's yet another player we bought without really understanding his profile or having a proper plan how to use him. But all that said, I don't think he'll make it.

Agree with this completely. Donny doesn't "hide" as some are claiming; he makes really good subtle runs and movements into space and wants to play quick one-twos. He's not a Bruno or Eriksen type player that will come and seek the ball to make stuff happen (hence his much lower number of touches per game). Despite the clear development of our play, we're still fairly direct with players like Bruno wanting to hit the early killer ball, Rashford looking to chop inside, shoot and Ronaldo being Ronaldo etc.
Donny just gets bypassed when we play this way, and he's neither adapted his own game to suit nor really been given the opportunities within the context of a strong first 11 previously. He's simply not going to get in ahead of Bruno and making cameo appearances isn't going to benefit him or the team. He needs to leave.
On Maguire... he's playing below his best level which is maybe making people think that he's worse than he is - his confidence looks low. That said, he exudes panic when things are going on around him, both with & without the ball. Varane & Martinez have a certain air of assertiveness, composure & class that is a clear upgrade on Maguire and he's another that I think should probably be moved on in time.

Butcher, I cannot fathom your support for Donny. We were all excited when we signed him, plus he seems a nice guy eager to fit in.
But he has done nothing for us, it maybe because it's not a system that suits, we'll hard luck, but he's contributed nothing in two years.
