The NHS is simultaneously the most wonderful and the most shambolic organisation.
Wonderful as, at its best, it provides care with no prejudice.
Shambolic because it's run terribly and it's only really the goodwill of the ground floor staff who are keeping it going.
There's only so much you can expect people to do when they have their own stresses and worries, not to mention working unpaid overtime and going above and beyond. Give them the right conditions and pay and I'd predict that in a few years the NHS would cost us less.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
NHS isn't going to fixed by handing out a few pay rises and improving working conditions. It's a mess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It'd be a start!

If the GVT havent got anymore money to pay wages rises for the nurses we have still got and as there are 40000 nurses vacancies how are they not only going to attract and then pay for the nurses they need to fill the ranks and also retain the ones we have that most will almost certainly leave if they dont get an acceptable payrise
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They aren't interested in that. They are deliberately trying to run the system down so that people like Busby can get all excited about the NHS collapsing.
Nurses are undervalued for the work they do, and if you want proof you only have to look at their value sinse Corona came along!..
They were over worked before than, but sinse, I wonder how many that have nothing to do with their work would take it on, I don't think anyone that doesn't see life the way they do would!..
There are 3 nurses in the group that I go to the football with over here, they're no better off then the British nurses but have the same problems, but the way the cost off living and prices are now going, it's only putting more pressure on them to do a very pressurised job but pay more with the bit that they're earning!..
Good luck to the nurses, and if it came down to it the Fire brigade!..
The nurses should start a war. They always find money for that kind of thing!

War between them and the leaching politicians. Hopefully be a bloodbath with no one to help the massacared politicians as they are all on strike, with the only option to sell their second homes to pay for the nurses to help them.
It depends on how much folk value the health care service.
It's hardly a secret the government have cut back/under invested for years. And the strikes are a consequence of NHS providers being unable to meet demand for years. Which has deteriorated to the point of crisis management.
After Cv19 one may of hoped the government would revaluate its priorities. Sadly not.
As an aside expect striking across all sectors to be the new norm as JRM as his ideologues look to roll back/disapply a raft of hard fought workers/consumer rights.

Well, unless you are 12 or a paedo, go for the latter option.
I wonder how long it will be before MPs try to vote through another pay rise for themselves.
Remember when that Tory MP said that £80,000 plus expenses wasn't enough to live on. Now they are claiming that nurses are adequately paid.

Don't think you have to be a cynic to think that.
My mother was a nurse. I respect the work they do.
I am a trained paramedic. I respect the work they do.
I had a girlfriend who was a nurse.
I have dealt with broken bones and saved a life as a ship's medical officer.
I also successfully gave CPR to an elderly person who collapsed in a car park.
To have the training and knowledge to help is not just a privilege, it is a duty.
The subsequent feeling is incredible. I probably cried both times afterwards.

It's amazing that some (not all) tory voters are now starting to fall into the "the NHS is not working well, so let's scarp it" narrative.
No one in their right mind should be looking at how healthcare works in the states and thinking that would be beneficial to anyone but a few very wealthy people.
