It was unbelievable.
Darts is my 2nd favourite sport after football.
It’s one of the few sports that almost guaranteed entertainment at the highest level.
In field sports and boxing you can be play conservatively which can reduce the sport as a spectacle at times but what makes darts special is that the only way the play it is all out attack.

Annoyed that MvG lost but tbh he didn’t deserve it in the end. Only averaged 99 which for him is very poor in a big game.

Yeah.
He was averaging something like 104 for the tournament until last night, including a mammoth 108 in the SFs.
I had a feeling that he would get nervous though if Smith was able to hang in, which is exactly what happened.
MvG for all his scoring dominance does have a bit of a mental block at the Worlds when things get tight.

even then at 2 1 and 3 3 i fancied him
smith had to grind out wins all the way through
bunting pushed him
so did cullen
so did clemens until the last couple of sets
i think that made the difference last night

Other than Suljovic who you never really believed could win, MVG was not tested at all before last night.
He was brilliant in the QF and SF and arguably unbeatable in that form but Dobey and Van den Bergh were both dreadful and took any pressure off of him and made it easier for him to play so well.
That is pretty mental, both on a nine darter.
We had a sunday ritual after bullseye of going into the shed and playing the game ourselves, I remember one week we were ripping into dad for missing a shot and he just took the board off the wall and put his foot straight through it
Was fckin great final, unbelievable leg just ridiculous.
Even had darts on the TV last night and Utd Bournemouth on the dodgy stream was relegated to the iPad

Definitely the best leg of darts ever! So glad I watched it at the time (as in wasn’t distracted/ caught it halfway through). Unreal! I will not get bored of seeing it repeated in full
The overtakes in the closing stages of the British GP, the final minutes of extra time in the WC final and that leg are probably the best 3 sporting moments of 2022 (‘llow the darts) that had me on the edge of my seat.
A great final played at a wonderful pace with no histrionics (Gerwyn Price not included!)
