He wants a new contract for 6 months work
I think it's a lot simpler than you think - he's not playing with or recovering from an injury.
Mentally seems to be in a good place now, think ETH has helped with that probably with reassurance of his place at the club and with the clubs future plans
I would say two things; fitness and coaching.
I don't believe that Rashford was injury free and fully fit for at least 2 years after he had the double stress facture in his back. He was something like back to full fitness last season, but his head was totally shot. He was mentally drained and playing in a team that was struggling.
ETH and his team are coaching the players better. This has lead to better results and an improved feeling around the club, which in turn has helped lift Rashford's (and the squad's) spirits.
A good atmosphere around the club, believing in the managers ideas, seeing the progress which results in a happy footballer who becomes more confident. Simply stuff really.

That and actually being fit.
I have watched him labour around the pitch for a couple of years following his back injury. He just wasn't moving right. The pace wasn't quite there and he also didn't have the stamina. There was an improvement last season, but by that point he was mentally gone. He seems in much better place now both physically and mentally.
Obviously hindsight is a wonderful thing, but i actually did say at the time that he should've had his operation straight away rather than postponing it. Both solskjaer and Southgate are to blame imo.

The shoulder operation?
The new positive atmosphere at the club. No more dressing room leaks, kleeks and groups. A no more Ronaldo. Breath of poitive fresh air. Better players being recruited. (Casemeiro Martinez). Poorer ones being benched.(Maguire and Linderlof).
Plus better specialist coaching (eg from Benni McCarthy for the strikers) and training programmes (apararently Rash is doing more weights). Harder discipline from the manager with fines for fack all. Talk of a max wage cap. ETH introducing a style and identity to the play. On the front foot. Working harder in groups on the press.
Atmosphere at OT much better. Dont get on the backs of players as much. More singing. Away support since the WC has been even more incredible if that is possible.
Its a new broom and a breath of fresh air. Better than expected start from the ETH era. Lets hope he is backed by the owners New or current.

I think that your point about weights is an important one. He looks physically stronger. He has matured into a man and you can see that in his ability to shield the ball. He is using his body a lot better
Ronaldo leaving!
Nah, it's mainly a case of form and fitness, coupled with playing in a team that is on the up.

Ronaldo leaving!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It could have been a factor.
I think a few players struggled with being in his shadow.
Probably a combination of fitness, tactics, coaching, confidence, better teammates, having something to prove, fulfilling his potentual, a purple patch thatvstrikers go through.
For me, he isnt rubbish, and he isnt world class. As long as our expectations match this, we shouldnt be dissappinted by him.
Simply really. He’s remembered that he’s allowed to take a player on.

I think a few of our players got sick of trying to pass him the ball to score his record goals when he basically couldnt hit a barn door. Also sick of him trying to score when thwre was noothing really on. There is a reason why our GD is in single figures. Shipping to many at the back and ronaldo and co not scoring many at the front.
I think it is SO OBVIOUS what has changed - as a Gooner I was DESPERATE for Ronaldo to keep his ego firmly esconced at Old Trafford. 😎
I was absolutely devastated when he left you as I knew you would be back in form...👀
