I actually do agree with you Donn on Meslier. I thought he should as Roy Keane remarked be braver for the first goal by dominating the box more and I thought the 2nd goal he let in was saveable too and which I doubt Palace's keeper would have had any trouble dealing with.

absolute rubbish

He’s 23 and played over 100 games, so he not too young or inexperienced.

Its an absolute myth, keepers dont get good until 30.

He just not very good and never will be. Id sell while his stock is high, in summer

I’m starting to get that way with Meslier. I don’t think he’s progressed for two seasons now, maybe even regressed, since that first year in the PL. His distribution is worse and he’s making less saves that win us points.

If a silly offer comes in for Meslier we'd be foolish not to take it.

I said about 3 years ago that Meslier needed to be an understudy to the likes of a Tom Heaton, about the same time Ramsdale was playing quite well despite SheffU getting battered every week…Arsenal took Ramsdale to be Leno’s understudy and he quickly took his position…look at the difference between the two now!

Agree. Id rather sell him to raise funds than someone like Gnonto or Adams. Id rather we kept all of our better players though.

Actually agree with you for once Dong regarding Ayling and Meslier (not sure about the Cooper idea mind you).
Read they are considering playing Sutcliffe somewhere. Not sure he has what it takes and I am convinced he is still out injured.

I like Meslier, but selling while the stock is high is fair. Especially after the new cost for KJA

In terms of alternatives, how Palace have Johnstone as a back up is beyond me. Good keeper

Made my views known on Meslier, I think he is a poor keeper who flaps over and over. Think he causes panic at the back and our defensive frailties are in part due to this.
Think we need a clear out of the whole department including a coach who get his job because he is Orta's mate and learnt his trade from a book.

Fourth choice French keeper at best, behind West Ham's version of Robles.

He's a young keeper whose played a lot of games. I've felt at times he's going to he class but then not truly seeing the progression. He has a maybe over hyped, good with his feet that clubs like and are not easy to come by

He may go on to be a top keeper. But agree with the assessment initially given

The narrative around Meslier is very skewed. Young players in any position need protection, not constant exposure. Someone earlier mentioned Ramsdale, who looked woeful at the two clubs he got relegated with, yet moves to a club where he isn't constantly exposed and has been allowed to develop into a quality keeper.

Lot of people on here will look pretty silly if (when) Meslier is one of the world's best in 4-5 years.

I think Meslier was lauded simply because he wasn't Kiko.
A defensive unit needs to have confidence in it's keeper, the Liverpool team of 1978/9 conceded only 16 goals all season, in part because they had Thompson and Hansen at the heart of the defense but also in part because the defensive unit had confidence in Clemence. They knew that he was able to deal with any mistakes and therefore were not nervous of making the mistakes and therefore didn't.
It's amazing how far "I've got your backs lads" goes in football.

I think the game and ball being much faster these days plays a big part!..

In the past keepers used to hold the ball, these days they palm it away which in a lot off cases puts the team under the same or more pressure when the ball comes staight back!..

I'm not sure what a goalkeeper who played 40 odd years ago matters when it comes to Meslier to be honest.
