I remember when Demons Souls was coming out. I mind reading about it prior, waiting . pore ordered it.

seen the instruction booklet had its own walkthrough for the first boss, knew it was gonna be super tough. I was so hyped ... then I got into the combat, felt clunky to me and was just roll roll strike.

then I thought I would watch some playthroughs to see how others were playing it ...exact same. I was so disappointed, was thinking this was gonna be this uber intricate combat system, super tough and vaired enemies, all these weapons and abilities... but all I got out it was roll roll strike . not for me at all

anyone else feel they wasted hours of their life on elden ring?

Boring same old dungeons and bosses, no dialogue, no real story, blurry cold world with nothing in it.

really didn't get the hype all the way through.

I just never bought into the DS combat system at all.

roll roll roll, striker, roll roll, strike, roll roll roll roll roll strike, roll roll rol.... i think you get the picture. not for me at all
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah it is a bit clunky lol, I was permanently on the edge between medium and heavy build.

But I didn't mind the challenge of that too much, bloodhound fang for the win.

I just found the whole experience...what's the word...numbing.

Compare it to skyrim, witcher, ff games and others where i've put hours in, it just felt like nothing really happened.

I love FS games, but I'd always go for a light build such that you don't fat roll.

Gotta be my favourite developer atm. Was Naughty Dog for a good while, but they've been fairly quiet in recent years, other than the TLOU remake; looking forward to their next effort.

For me, I'd go:

BB
DS1
DS3
ER
DeS
Sekiro
DS2

Nope - and by the sounds you played a completely different game to me

However, you have just described my relationship with Final Fantasy. I have been told by so many people how great these games are though always completely bored after 10 minutes. Dumb dialogue, cringey characters, and the most mind numbing combat experience that may have been a bit more interesting 25 years ago! Just don't bother, clearly not for me....and you know what I am completely fine with that

Final Fantasy has stories though, character development etc. What dumb dialogue does it have?
People always cite the laughing scene in ffx but that aside?

In terms of combat, it worked for the time...the reboots and newer games are not rigid turnbase experiences now.

Just like you with ER Nick, didn't see it, was horrible experience I thankfully gave up in and don't regret it in the slightest

Im not a fan of FF games that much tbf. Iv played most of them and there is only two I would recommend.

7 & 8.

7's story , characters, world were untouchable at the time.... a country mile ahead of what we had experienced by that point.

If someone ask me the best game ever , I say FF7 and its without hesitation or thought.

To me that game was in a league of its own. remake was even close to the original.

What I would give for a straight up graphics overhaul of the first one. Dont really touch the story or the combat mechanics that much.

Just put the graphics on a par with today and add in a ton of animations for the combat and im sold.

Cloud and Sephiroth dynamic is the best iv ever experienced (granted i was a kid when playing this) but i got so invested in that game and characters farfar beyond anything I had ever sampled before in a game.

The turn based combat is what I miss , it was amazing IMO. It was the ONE thing I wanted kept from the original game !!

FF7 GOAT IMO

Can't disagree with any of that whodunnit, other than the remake, I really really enjoyed the spin on it and bringing it into the 21st century.
Really impressive.

I've completed ff7 3/4 times (still dont understand all of it lol) but as you say, the characters, story, the way you're thrown in from the beginning, the secrets.

Just a truly remarkable game.

I feel privileged to have played it, we didn't have much as kids but one sunday evening one of my dads scally mates just turned up with a ps1 and it came with ff7.

The rest is history.

Thank god I played it at the time. no game has even come close with the experience I had with it.

The same team also did a very good other RPG not long after. Was a Japanese game that I had to import !

Parasite Eve : another superb game

heard of it, never played it.

I just downloaded FF9, reduced to 8 quid on the ps store. I finished 7,8 and 10 and even 10-2 (crap). But 9 I never finished, it fizzled out for me.

You will love it .... you can tell it was the exact same team that made it not longer after FF7.

A bit more of a serious tone with it , but a bit more modern and a far grainier lens style for the game.

loved it.

I also played VIII and graphically at the time again it was another level. they kinda had a version of the turn based combat but it wasnt the same.

there was one firework cutscene in that game and I was actually saying "holy F**k" at the fidelity and detail. Again it was like nothing I had seen before... didnt finish it though.

Also did the boyband one 15, and again didnt really do it for me but you can see the amount of effort put into that game was decent but I dont know if 7 tarnished it for me tbh , nothing comes to close it and any other FF I play i quickly go meh... its not 7 !

FFX runs it close to me, at the time that blew my mind, blitzball, the storyline, the characters, the scenery, the al bhed.

FFX is a perfect game, in my eyes.

I hate that they’ve moved on from turn-based combat completely. I’m currently playing FFVII Remake Intergrade and, whilst I’m gutted it’s not purely turn-based, at least there are large elements of that style incorporated.

I thought FFXV’s combat was horrendous (hold square ffs) and it looks like FFXVI is going even further in that direction, with it being completely real time, no ATBs whatsoever.

It really detracts from the other players in your party. When a game forces you to use each of them in earnest, you grow to know them & their skill sets, taking a vested interest in their development. In FFVII Remake, though, I pretty much just use Cloud; in FXI you’re coerced to just use Noctis, and I understand FFXVI is the same

How does that Zelda game stack up against Elden ring? Apart from almost certainly being miles easier .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Elden Ring is a piece of pss, Baz! Platinum it a few months back.
That being said, I used my mimic for a few fights, but all the same its the easiest FS game for me.

I did say, but maybe I was too vague. FS don't hold your hand into how to play the game or what to do, they just give hints ie a particular ring or weapon found before a fog wall.
The lore is left to you to discover and learn via NPCs and bosses etc.
The dungeons can be bore I agree, they are fillers but some are important and add to the story.
Have you played Bloodborne, Nick? The dungeons on that game will infuriate you

An actual remake of the very original!?

posted on 18/5/23

I used to love the likes of SF, MK, Tekken, and Soul Caliber as a kid. I enjoy having a bash from time to time, but won't ever buy one. MK for me changed the whole fighting aesthetic, becoming a violent fighting machine. Blood splurting everywhere, and limbs being torn off. It was superb. Made Street Fighter look like a game for small kids.
