It WAS the most expensive in history until our squad this year. I think this shows how generous the Glazers have been allowing us to spend unprecedented amounts of money. We are clearly being very well run, it is just the players on the pitch letting us down. Or the fans for not showing the players enough support.
Indeed Elvis. I think we have already seen signs that we are addressing this problem.
If I can just single out one player who we should never have bought who will never succeed in the Premier League for any club then Antony is the benchmark.
ETH should have been told no on that one.

Yeh he is absolutely dross. I know that Garnacho has displaced him on the right at the moment, but it should have happened long ago. Mad to me that Pellistri didn't really get a chance out there for a few games. I know that Amad has been struggling with injury, but I think he also offer more than Antony.
We have spent about £180m on wingers in recent years and the two that we are actually playing now are 2 youth products.
Why haven’t they included Chelsea in these figures and stopped at 2022?

Their calculator can't deal with those types of figures. They've got a scientific one ordered that might be able to handle the job.
Chelsea clearly have the most expensive squad though the article says they spent £850m in one facking year
It's not the price that bothers me ( it's not my money) it's the quality. Lisandro and Rasmus, no problem, the others? Too expensive or not good enough.
No surprise really.
We know Woodwards United were prepared to spend big to try and keep pace with Liverpool and City, and that it largely failed.
As bad as the spending has been though, we do have some quality players in our squad.
Shaw, Martinez, Varane, Dalot, Casemiro, Mount, Bruno, Sancho (value wise at least) Garnacho, Hojlund.
Typical biased media. What about Liverpool? They spent more money than anyone for just 1 league title.
Think of all the hospital wings that could have been bought with that money

The thing is United have won 0 titles after all that outlay. Madrid and Liverpool are behind United but trophy cabinets are bursting at the seams.

United have won some trophies post SAF, but yes, City and Liverpool have been far more suvvesful in that period.
That said though, United arent starting from scratch, and currently have some top quality players to build on.
Yes they've won some trophies but nowhere near enough for a club of their calibre and spending. Failing to win a league title or Champions League in 11 years is not something you associate with a big, top club tbh.

Both City and Liverpool went decades without these titles, but yes, United have been releatively unsuccessful post SAF
The scariest thing for me when looking at utd and money spent is always that utd were so far ahead to even begin with, they shouldnt have needed to spend much at all

Far ahead in terms of spending?
That is no surprise either. If you’re doing the wrong things operationally & strategically, throwing more money at it with the exact same approach isn’t going to produce different results typically.
And yet people will still defend the Glazer’s ownership.

I would generally say that people who defend the Glazer's ownership are the people who have no clue about how anything in life works whatsoever.
As in, i can guarantee you there are people reading this BBC article thinking 'Look at how much money the Glazers have spent! What are they complaining about?'

Hmmm. Not sure about that. I don't think that SAF's final squad was incredibly strong. He just knew how to get the best out of it the players. That is why the quality of football dropped off a bit.

Whilst they haven't invested in the stadium and training facilities etc, they have provided the funds that should have kept us competitive on the pitch. Unfortunately they have employed people incapable of making the right signings.
