What nation does Ben White play for? If it’s England, then I’m surprised he’s not in the squad. Is he injured? I don’t follow the Prem much, being in the Championship this season, so don’t know his current situation but I know Arsenal are giving him a new contract. He was fantastic for us when we had him on loan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s asked to be excused which tbh I’m not a fan of
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your replies, guys. I didn’t realise Ben had turned down the chance to play. I find that a bit strange.

Tbf the attacking quality/depth is pretty class. Not sure even France are superior to us on that front nowadays.
England
France
Portugal
Id say are the top 3, in that order. If England cant win a European cup with a team like that and with the drop in standard of opposition sides (Germany, Spain, Italy) then they never will.

It would be beyond difficult to coach an inverted role at international level I feel.
Also, Southgate (or any international manager) is not of the same quality as Pep and Klopp.
There is a lack of DMs for England full stop, plus Trent has never really performed in an England shirt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They do it for their clubs. For Stones Walker TAA Rice it would be like 2nd nature.
May be hard to implement now having played 2 DMs for England for years

It’s a good question. Brazil could make the best case.
Brazil and France are the only ones that are in the conversation
Portugal could make a case.
Maybe, depends how they set up but here’s no Kane, Mbappe or Vinicius.
If Jota keeps his form going he’s lethal but that’s a pretty big if. Joao Felix can flatter to decieve. I’m not having Ronaldo in these days as elite. Not the biggest fan of Ramos and is Bernardo’s best position wid E forward? Not for me. As a front three it just misses out for me.
I’ve just seen he’s written forward line actually, not front three. Yeah they make a case I guess. I doubt anyone would pick them ahead of ours or France and Brazil though.
I think there’s still quite a bit of depth and quality with Portugal. Depends how you wanna judge it I guess. I think they’ve got more attacking quality than France if you look at the attackers that you’d expect them both to take in a tournament. The depth France have after that is ridiculous, though. But I’m not sure who they have in their u21s at the moment is as important as who is in the seniors and on the fringes.
France, Brazil, Norway, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, etc
We'll never win anything with Flatrack Kane up front playing for personal milestones and accolades at the expense of the team.
I’m exceptionally pleased Kane plays for England.

Are you Scottish?
France have called up Giroud, Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele, Muani, Thuram any Diaby. Coman and Nkunku are injured, but I’ve never really rated Coman and Nkunku hasn’t shown if he’s just a beneficiary of the Bundesliga tax yet.
Portugal don’t have anyone as good as Mbappe but they can still pick from a group of Ronaldo, Ramos, Bernardo, Bruno, Felix, Leao and Neto.

No, I’m just not weirdly fixated on anything even remotely connected to Spurs
Just read that White didn’t even call Southgate himself, he got Edu to do it.

It’s cowardly and unprofessional. If he doesn’t want to play for England then okay, but he’d made himself look like a twaaat with the way he’s gone about it.
Will be interesting what Southgate does with Bellingham.
He's obviously good enough to play a bit deeper but personally I think he has to play in that further forward role given the absurd numbers he's producing for Madrid there, but then that means you do have to bring in a Hendo/Gallagher into the middle which is barebones as discussed.
It’s a difficult one, not just because of the cm options, but also because Bellingham hasn’t really played regularly as a number 10 for England and has only scored twice for us. If there’s one thing we know about Southgate it’s that what players have produced for England will always be an important part of his thinking. He’s always been reluctant to use Foden centrally because he hasn’t played there much for City and has disappointed in an England shirt most of the time anyway, let alone in the middle, but given Foden’s been putting in better performances for England recently and playing centrally more often for City he may have to rethink that.
