Long term I'm hopeful he can get it right.
Short term we are going to suffer massively. Just look at our upcoming games. We haven't got a gimmie fixture really for weeks now.
City away, Spurs away. Liverpool away and Arsenal away all upcoming.
Forest Newcastle home won't be easy either.
He's come into the club at the worst possible moment when the fixtures are about to turn and we have no money to really change anything. I don't know if I can forgive Jim and the INEOS team personally for continuing with ETH. I don't even think the Glazers would have done that and that's saying something. They sacked LVG for an FA cup and 5th place afterall and last year was miles worse.
I wish Ruben all the best but my word he's going to have to pull rabbits out of hats to get us competitive again. We are a long long way behind.
He should get a fairly free hit this season, pressure off (as much as it can be at United) to start imposing his ideas and working out which players can and can't perform in his system.
It might seem like dropping a manager right in the deep end but I think new appointments mid/early season have a lot of benefits that much sort after summer appointments don't.
Making United 'hard to beat' especially at home might well be RAs first goal.Hes talked a lot about the need to still win games as he makes his mark on United. Im not sure that many of the current players in the squad could offer much more anyway, regarding the style that RA wants United to play. Achieving that will take time with much activity in the transfer market, over the next 2 or 3 windows, in and outs, (plus intensive coaching and positional changes even on some players, especially up front), to get the right personel who are actually capable of playing his way.
Hes got to balance keeping the support happy at Old Trafford every week and experimenting with what he has and what is to come, before we see the fruits of what hes has come to do.
I was a bit surprised by Utd last night. At least you now keep the ball better than under ETH. Limited us to a few chances in open play.

Defensively we've been fine all season. Just look at our goals against column. It isn't even that bad.
Our attack is miles off the top 3 teams though.
I think in the short-term there will be bad days, but there will also be good ones. We will see glimpses of what we can do, and that will result in a few great performances, but there will be days when we're not on it and no doubt lose accordingly.
But the overall progression will be on an upwards curve.
And we will finally be a team that will have a few easy wins this season, which we rarely got under ETH.
Things do feel different under Amorim - a clear sense of direction, the players do seem to be trying for him, just a different atmosphere. I can honestly say that I never really felt this under any previous managers since SAF - yes, there were occasional good moments, but for one reason or another, it never felt like we had the right guy in charge.
I have always said it is so difficult to find the right guy to manage this club, (or any big club), more often than not you won't get the right guy.
It could still turn out that Amorim isn't the right guy, but you know, sometimes you just get that feeling early on and you think, yeah, this does feel right, even when it's not going so well.

These are 3 games in hoping we can win and hopefully with some style and goals.
City away will be tough obviously and now KDB is back I fear we will be hitting them at the wrong time as per usual.
Newcastle at home could be anything. They are a very good team on their day but can also be garbage too when they aren't at it like us.
Liverpool away is a loss. Let's just be honest with ourselves. They will beat us quite easily. Salah always destroys us and he's in the form of his life right now it seems.
Spurs and Arsenal both away in both domestic cups again is very tough.
Ruben was definitely right about suffering in short term. Plenty of pain on its way but hopefully one or two decent wins too to help soften the blows.
All that matters is seeing progress in the squad getting on board Amorim's philosophy and ideas. If that can happen and we see those things playing out on the pitch and us improving as a result then good things will hopefully happen in time.
Things like seeing us get big results over lesser team are irrelevant if we're not getting the managers ideas across onto the pitch.
The Cash we have thrown at Antony, Zirkzee, Rasmus,Mount, Onana etc is totally depressing in terms of any sort of value for money and has left us second rate and skint.
Have to feel sorry for the guy picking this up while trying to get stalwarts like Rashford to look like they give a feck.
I fancy us to beat Forest at Home on Saturday but after that it looks tough but at least we have a manager with some personality and obvious energy to get behind.

I get that but we do have to pick up some wins along the way. He's got a free pass this season to a certain extent but he can't afford to lose more than we win either. There's for to be a balance.
I'm personally hopeful about the future too however I think he got the team wrong last night. Amad should have started and Mason Mount shouldn't be anywhere near our starting line up as he runs around and does nothing else really. There's no goals and assists in him at all.
During SAFs tenure, we consistently beat the teams we expected to, with only the occasional slip-up, and remained competitive against our direct rivals. While it’s satisfying to get results against sides like Arsenal, we are still a long way from being truly competitive, let alone consistently.
Since Amorim took charge, it’s clear the players have a much better understanding of the instructions. There is work rate and clear patterns of play. The main issue lies in the execution, which comes down to the quality of the squad, something that will hopefully be addressed in upcoming transfer windows. A prime example is the use of wide players who make decoy runs in phases of play to create pockets of space for the attackers, a strong feature of the Sporting team. Utilised to devastating effect when opposition defence adopts a high line to break forward with pace. We have seen glimpses of this at Utd and I simply can't wait how this evolves with the arrival of quality wide players. Amad incidentally is flourishing in this system because of his intelligence.
I no longer have concerns about playing with three at the back, as the formation proves to be highly fluid. Off the ball, it often transitions into a back four depending on the game and opposition, while in possession, it reverts to a three. In Uber defensive moments it reverts to a five. In attacking phases, one of the three defenders steps into midfield to create an overload. We will get results, we will overwhelm certain teams but we must also accept Amorim is going through a phase of experimentation and adjustment and until he has a squad capable of excuting his tactics to perfection we will endure frustration as well as jubilation this season.

I would have liked to have seen Amad start too for sure. Mount is an odd one for me. I thought that this system would better suit him. Maybe we need to give him (and the rest of the squad) some time to get their heads around the new system before judging.
Ideally we will see some wins along the way, but I think we just need to be patient like Arsenal were with Arteta.

Arsenal’s entire approach seems to revolve around set pieces! We’ll learn from this experience, but there aren’t many teams as good as they are when it comes to corners.
Hmmmm…
Interesting suggestion.
However - and I’m going to rant a bit here – in the entire history of the club (which, let us remember, is 8/10 years less than that of AFC and LFC respectively) Manchester United Football Club had, at SAF’s departure, the ONLY positive head-to-head record against every other club in the English league system – in other words, at that point Manchester United Football Club had lost less than they had won against each and every other English league team.
And yet, here’s the paradigm/conundrum/paradox. Until the last two titles, under SAF, LFC’s claim to be the “most successful team” in the English league system had some kind of validity. Hence the “knocking off the perch” comment. United WERE the bigger and better club but the league titles won did not necessarily show this in a true form.
I remember submitting a, well-received, article back in the days of the original BBC 606 concerning just why the fact that, although Manchester United had the best head-to-head record of ALL the English league clubs, the title wins were so close.
Basically (and in brief) the article identified that both AFC and LFC had far better head-to-head records against the teams OTHER than Manchester United Football Club in the English league system. In other words they were both just better at CONSISTENTLY beating the ‘lesser’ teams than United – they were both better at being ‘flat track bullies’.
A postulated explanation for this was that ever since the mid-60s - the point when I started my life-long support of the most successful club in English league football - even though Manchester United Football Club’s head-to-head record was POSITIVE against all other English league clubs, they were going to be the ‘bench mark’ by which most professional footballer measured themselves. They all wanted to play well and beat the best. In short, they collectively put on their best performances at OT and at their respective home grounds against Manchester United Football Club – and why not its a sign of respect for the best.
Thus there is a statistical anomaly bought about by the relative and varying ‘attitude’ of professional footballers dependent upon whom they were facing.
Now I’m not suggesting Manchester United Football Club should adopt the more ‘cheaty’ style of AFC to win most of their titles or the more ‘boring/negative’ style of LFC to win nearly all of their titles – at least as I’ve witnessed in my lifetime anyway. I’m just suggesting that the club invests in players, and coaches players, that are capable of making the BALL do what the brain asked the FOOT to do.
Put FOOT and BALL together properly and intelligently and we have ‘football’ there is a clue in the name of the game.

I'm not saying we don't have to win, obviously if we are going in the right direction then it will mean we are improving and slowly becoming the side the manager wants. But getting big wins are irrelvant if we aren't moving in the right direction.
I'm not expecting us to be rubbish right up until we've reached the level the manager expects, that would be stupid. But I personally feel that what is paramount is getting behind the manager and getting on board with his ideas and philosphy, without that there's no point in anything. We will just continue to coast, relying on individual brilliance or off days from opponents.
I get why we played Mount yesterday, as well as Malacia and Dalot, we needed more defensive security. Amad has been fantastic so far this season but the wingback role is also a new one to him and I understand not wanting to put him up against Martinelli and Timber last night. Maybe over time he can be more trusted defensively but I get why he wasn't risked to begin with last night.

Amad played over 200 mins the previous week, and the wingbacks probably cover more distance than anyone else on the pitch.
Amorim has been very, very clear about protecting players, and giving them proper rest between games.
Starting him last night would have been idiocy.
Being able to bully anyway would be a welcome change.
I think it will go hand in hand in that as we hopefully improve under Amorim, getting more comfortable wins against lowered placed teams will happen a little more often.
Of course at this initial stage, it's about identifying the strongest players able to play in the system Amorim wants, seeing who he can improve to fit in, and of course seeing who won't really work out at all, and that will take time, and accordingly a bunch of mixed results.
Having all these games almost helps him swap things about and assess the players and no doubt in the new year we will see a more settled team.
But I already feel that Amorim will be able to get some comfortable wins just with what he is doing, which I never felt under ETH.
Darren
So you’re saying you want us to be more like Jose?
We will improve but the one thing that Amorim won't get is the same amount of funds as ETH. If we don't qualify for the CL where is the cash coming from?
What's worse is I was reading the other day that we still owe £400m in past transfer fees too incredibly.
I don't think this new INEOS / Glazer arrangement is going to work for us unless we can clear a lot of this debt. Eventually it's going to burst and once again it will be the fans who suffer most. 😭

You are a drama queen aren't you?
How will you suffer exactly?
The football on display has been turgid for a decade yet fans still pay the price to go and watch it, and complain about it.
I used to go all the time, but since getting married I just cannot be facked. Rather save the money than sit there miserable watching these overpaid cants struggle to play football.
To summarise. Stop being a whiny bish and stop paying for tickets, despite ticket price increases.

Things like seeing us get big results over lesser team are irrelevant if we're not getting the managers ideas across onto the pitch.

Don’t know where you read that, but according to the latest accounts (Q1 2024), we have £140m in transfer fee liabilities (total net deferred revenue liabilities of around £200m).
