Greedy Liverpool ready to walk alone

To suggest that Barca's bigger TV deal enables them to attract the top players is a nonsense argument

---------------------------

It certainly helps them in being able to afford the top players, not to mention helping them pay the wages of such players.

That their transfer dealings have been astute isn't up for debate, at least from myself.

For for the record, the sales of Ibrahimovic and Bojan didn't bring in 50m euros. It was closer to the 35m euro mark.

The chap who made the statement - RipleysCat (U1862) is a City fan

Which comment that I made are you refering to here?

How on earth is it a nonsense argument?

It quite clearly allows them to have the financial clout to attract better players than Valencia.

How on earth can you not possibly see this.

Ian Ayre quite clearly can.

Waiting for the correct investors. With our recent deals with the kit sponsors and Standard chartered we'll have no worries
==========================================

What recent kit deal? Do you mean with Warrior? I thought the source of that was a Boston Blogger who since retracted it.Or have they officially announced it or are you on about some other kit deal?

Your answer still means one thing though,CASH or lack of it is why they've done nothing. You kid yourself all you want but fact is they need cash.

AS for RA he has invested over 800M of his money and not wanted anyhting other than a successful team. That will do in my book.

Do you want me to name the rest of the teams in La Liga then?

Really, you are much better than this.

And you sort of prove the point everyone is making to you.

If Barca and Real were not getting most of the TV money, maybe Valencia would not be in financial difficulties.

Mind you there is a common denominator in Liverpool's and Valencia's lack of readies.

In terms of market competition view, why should it be TV rights be done collectivley and why shouldn't a football team not get themselves a better TV deal if they are able.
===============================

It is done collectively because Liverpool like the other 19 teams agreed to it.
If you want to go it alone I think I can speak for the vast majority and say Bye,go play in the Championship if you don't like it.

Fair enough. Still falls short of 50m euro's, but now I'm just being pedantic!!

I completely agree with him. After all, Osasuna raking in a quality 6 million is completely fair and allows for them to compete on the same level as Barcelona regularly...
I mean, big clubs never go under because they don't have enough money, do they? Leeds are still regularly attracting the biggest names despite having no money.

Oh wait. Everything depends on money. Barca get top players, a top academy, top coaches etc. etc. because they have lots and lots of money. Yes they play lovely football, but don't we think that that might have come about because they get 20 times as much money as the smaller teams in the league and can simply poach all of their best players?

Look at Bayern munich until recently - they used to buy the best players in the league at the end of each season. Every season.

Maybe if the TV rights were distributed more evenly between Spanish clubs, then Valencia's financial problems may not be so bad.

At least Utd and Chelsea support competetiveness:

It would be disastrous if the Premier League copied La Ligas model.

I can understand why the Glazer, Ayres, Roman and friends would want to alter the current structure but I really hope they don't get their way.

I don't know the process, but surely there would have to be a vote or something which involved more than just the top 4?

posted on 12/10/11

Currently the bottom club in the Premier League gets about 65% of what the top club gets in tv revenue.

In La Liga. The bottom club gets 8% of what Barcelona & Real Madrid get.

Fair?

Mr Chelsea

Totally fair. If you support Barca or Madrid...

I take it if this happened and Chelsea followed suit you'll stop going to Stamdford Bridge?

Probably best to remove it, Robbing Hoody is trying to get me banned through the feeback thread... not 100% sure why but i dont want to annoy people.

So if you can take it down please do before more people complain.... which is inevitable on the Liverpool board.

Cheers

On the article

There isnt much wrong with what Ian Ayre says. Recently Fergie said something similar( SAF wanted to increase the amount of money given to the clubs while keeping it fair and equal). Apparently this is more beneficial to United than Liverpool. Considering the fact that Manchester united is the most recognized sporting brand in the world, United can earn more than Real and barca.

On the other hand this ruins the competitiveness of EPL. Will people want to watch EPL If PL is not competitive as it used to be? Im not sure. Allowing the clubs to negotiate individual TV deal will allow top clubs to bring in more revenue but it could potentially reduce the overall revenue generated by the EPL

It was never going to happen if Chelsea and United supported it,14 teams would not vote to cut their own income. It is a sham story from Ayres to blame no new stadium on.

And my club has proudly declared:

"We are supportive of the Premier League on this and want to continue with the way they sell [TV rights] collectively."

Ok but if somehow this did go through, would Chelsea take the moral high ground or would they try to benefit from it/?And if they did benefit from it, as you so vehemently disagree with the whole concept of it, will you stop watching yoru beloved club? Or will you not care?
