Our defense was great today. De Ligt too was colossal.
United's most 'essential' player at the moment. And for most his time at the club
Defence is a potential horror show without him.
Defensively he is everything dalot could never be.
Maguire has been such a scapegoat in recent years, but he's a good solid pro who always give his all for the club.
Dropped, stripped of the captaincy, I don't think he just stayed for the money. He's worked hard and is a good influence on the younger squad members.
May not be a world-beater, but can be part of a solid defensive unit.
World class in this system.
The turks hate the greeks. Him and Bayinder should do well together.
I could give you a list of players who have had more stick from the support than Harry has

Maguire’s reputation as a terrible defender was made when he was playing with Lindelof (the worst defender of the post-Fergie era), AWB (a good tackler, but often caught out of position) and DDG (a great ball stopper who has no influence on his defenders).
He was absolutely brilliant today. The guy is such a great pro to be fair

Let's not do this. He was abysmal at times during his time with us. Comedy defending that had nothing to do with the players you mentioned.
Fair play to him, he did not whinge or cry. He put his head down and is now performing. He has earned himself a 1 year extension and rightly so. We bought this guy for a world record fee and expected better.
A fit and confident Maguire is an asset to the squad. He's not perfect or flawless, and he'll always be at his best in a lower block, but performances like today show why extending his contract rather than eat into an already compromised transfer budget to replace him this summer was a smart move.
I’ve nothing against the guy personally; he’s not a bad defender and he’s shown remarkable resilience.
However, these games suit him. Out of possession, often sitting deep and with not much space between the lines.
Let’s see how we goes in a game where it’s United who need to be more aggressive and push high.
The problem with Maguire has always been that we can’t play a system that dominates teams because it doesn’t play to his strengths. I’m not convinced that has changed, although the back three will help of course.

What we saw against Pool when we were a bit more agressive is that it will likely be one of the other two CBs going into midfield when we have possession.

I’m not saying he is a top defender, he is not. But I don’t know of any defender who played well next to Lindelof.
Maguire’s best seasons were playing alongside Lindelof under Ole.
