Wolves v Arsenal Match Thread

Midway through this run of 6 difficult games and we’ve been well beaten in the first three. We’ve not played well and defended particularly poorly, but I wouldn’t go along with a view that we’ve been cruising through the games.

Arsenal now, who are second in the league and still trying to get to the top spot. I’ve watched some of their recent games and they aren’t that great an attacking team. Lacked a proper centre forward all season and they are certainly missing Saka. But they’re very strong at corners and we can’t defend corners so that doesn’t augur well.

What can we do to change things and give us more of a chance? I suspect Semedo will move into the back 3 instead of Doherty, with Rodrigo coming in as right wing back. And Sarabia didn’t do enough at Chelsea to warrant another chance, so although Guedes has been below par in recent games, I’d recall him tomorrow.

Odds on an away win, but I think we’ll give them a run for their money.

Team news: Toti is fit and could be in the squad but not ready for 90 minutes yet, so bench at best I imagine. Leon Chiwome is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury picked up on Mondays U21s game,

Lots of the usual guff in the press conference about how we should play:

"I believe in my players, I believe in our work and we have confidence. We're still together. I want my team to play in the way that we should play and the last game was not a good game from us."

"We must show our tactical maturity because they are strong, but I have confidence in my players."

"They are strong from set plays, from attack. They are a strong team but we need to look at ourselves. In the last game we didn't have the intention to play our game and I don't want to see that again."

Semedo moving into the back three wouldn't be a great move when we are playing against a team who are excellent at attacking set pieces in my opinion. He is a great one on one defender, but aerial prowess is certainly not his strong point.

It's a shame Toti isn't match fit. Might have to go with Dawson in the back three for this one.

Although personally, I'd go with a back 4 now. We are conceding three goals a game regardless. May as well try to gain some more control in midfield to take the pressure off the defenders.

Wolves are awful. Expecting a 4-0 easy win for us

In the press conference Pereira also said he has spoken with Cunha. He has never expressed a wish to leave the club and is motivated to do his best for the club.

He has also spoken to Lemina who is looking to leave the club. He will not select him again while he transfer window is open. If he is still with the club when the window is closed then he will talk to him again.

Athletic/Athletico/Atletico Madrid seem genuinely interested in taking Fabio in the summer with a fee of €20m being quoted. The Spanish and Portuguese press both reporting the story today. Las Palmas have a home game against Osasuna tonight

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Fábio Silva joined UD Las Palmas on loan last summer and managed six goals and two assists from 15 league games this season. Earlier today, the 22-year-old’s brother, Jorge, told Marca Fábio made the best decision when joining the La Liga side. Marca also stated Wolves are rubbing their hands at making money through his sale.

Earlier this week, Fichajes.net reported the Wolves owned player has ended up on Atlético Madrid’s agenda.

This has been backed up in the UK and now reached Portugal, where O Jogo provide their take on this. Their title says Los Rojiblancos are thinking about Fábio Silva and Wolves are ‘rubbing their hands’.

Within the report, it’s made clear the Madrid club are looking at the Portugal international for the summer. O Jogo have found out Atlético haven’t opened talks with Vítor Pereira’s side but that their ‘interest is real’.

It’s further claimed ‘there is an opening’ from the Premier League side to negotiate a deal for Silva’s transfer for €20m. His contract expires in 2026, and the summer window will be Wolves’ last chance to earn a decent fee.

Silva decided to go out on loan as he found it difficult to enjoy regular minutes at Wolves. Julián Alvarez is the first-choice striker at Atlético, and the Portuguese would be behind the former Manchester City man, if he were to end up in Madrid.

Either way, Silva would be fortunate if he can secure a move to Diego Simeone’s side and perhaps the interest is being somewhat hyped.

Watched Fabio last night playing for Las Phalmas.

Guess what? He’s still 💩

Zero chance of Athlethico or any other club paying €20m

Sa, Semedo, Doherty, Bueno, Agbadou, Ait-Nouri, Andre, J.Gomes, Sarabia, Cunha, Larsen.

Subs: Johnstone, Dawson, Toti, Lima, Doyle, R.Gomes, Bellegarde, Guedes, Hwang.

Very surprised to see Sarabia starting. Hopeless last week and will probably leave in the summer, as I doubt his contract will be renewed. Pretty sure Doyle is getting pi55ed of by not starting.

I would have liked to have seen a back four today, as we will more than likely be on the back foot for most of the game.

No idea how we have gone with the same team again.

Not watching today as currently in Panama thankfully.

Don't understand how Rodrigo isn't getting picked ahead of Sarabia.

Seemed like we did ourselves proud today?

A draw would have reflected the game. Generally a good performance. Semedo my MoM, but Agbadouu put in his best performance yet. Not sure about the subs. Surely it was time for Doyle when Gomes went off. Shame Everton are pulling away. Looks like 3 from 4 now.
