It's a terrible record and we are left relying on a cup to try and salvage a season, not great.
I just don't really see any improvements either... The only hope i have is we get in a few players who click straight away into the system, including a 20+ goal striker... Nice and easy!
That said, I am not sure Pep and SAF combined could get a song out of this squad.. It's by far the worst UTD squad we've seen in the PL.
Anyway... Happy monday
Knowing us, we are more likely to lose points in the first 3 games and pick some up in the final 2, so it's a thankless task predicting what will happen.
I am prepared to give Amorim at least until a good few games into the next season, when hopefully we have sorted out the squad in terms of who he wants to stay, who can go, and hopefully have a few key signings being made.
Whilst I was prepared for not a great season, it has been shocking and nowhere near good enough - ultimately Amorim is the manager and he is responsible for that.
People talk about systems etc, but ultimately it is 'still just football', the players aren't being asked to play a different sport. Any little shoots of encouragement are far outweighed by the results - the strangest thing for me is that initially the signs seemed better, but over time it seems to have got worse - within games you can see improvement, and in the same game you see utter chaos, difficult to fathom.
Regardless of whether we win Europa or not, I think Amorim will need to make a solid start to next season, otherwise it will be difficult to keep faith with him, and I know many have lost that already.
Finding the right manager, especially for this club, is very difficult indeed. More often you will get it wrong than right. There was nothing wrong with Amorim as a choice, the timing was all wrong in terms of we should have brought him in at the start of the season, it may have made a difference, it may have not, but it certainly didn't help matters. And Amorim may not turn out to be the saviour we all hoped he would be.
We shouldn't be afraid to change managers - but I think the whole ending to ETH's time and Amorim coming in shows how important it is to get the whole process in choosing a manager correct - learning curves for all involved
I don’t think performances have been as bad as some in recent seasons but results obviously have, I put that mainly down to not having a striker worthy of the name
That said, I am not sure Pep and SAF combined could get a song out of this squad.. It's by far the worst UTD squad we've seen in the PL.
---
Don't be silly. Of course they could. Neither of them would have gotten rid of all their attackers either, and relied on the likes of Hoilund, Zirkzee, Garnacho, Amad and Bruno to carry them through the season.
They'd do better, of course.. but no manager would get this squad competing at the top.

I don't think it helps when people say SAF / Pep would have done better etc - we are talking about the 2 greatest managers seen in the EPL. Of course how good you are as a manager will be compared to the best, but it takes all managers time to really prove how good they are, and the vast majority will not reach the level required.
Off the top of my head, I will name SAF, Pep, Wenger, Jose, Klopp.................compared to the huge number of managers who haven't quite made it.
So the odds are already against Amorim, but we will know for sure into next season

Right now competent would be enough.
The worst decision this club made in January was ridding ourselves of two forward options and not replacing them, and on top of that losing Amad for the second half of the season. INEOS are literally inept cuuuunts.
Robb genuine question…
Would you not take Xavi over Amorim? I know I would. If he doesn’t win the Europa he’ll be out worst ever manager and Xavi turned Barca around fast when they were similar to us.

It was a risk which has not worked out. Back then, I think most of us thought Rashford needed to move because he was of no use to us, and I don't think too many tears were spilt when Antony went on loan.
And initially, around Christmas / new year, I think things weren't too bad, but a mixture of injuries and just gradual decline in results snowballed.
I assume there was no-one available forward wise that they thought they could bring in.
Of course these are the decisions that you have to live and die by, but getting rid of the 2 we did was probably the right decision

Without getting into the should we still be keeping Amorim debate, if a new manager was to come in, there is not set rules as to what will make them successful - SAF, Pep, Wenger, Jose, Klopp, all came to the EPL (or before then with SAF and Wenger) with various experience, so for me, it really is a case of if you have got it, you have got it, and you don't really know that until you are in the job.
I'm not sure previous EPL experience is a must either tbh.
I already knew when Amorim came in we will struggle to score in the PL as ten hag was already making the squad play at maximum level before he got sacked. The crazy thing is we are extremely clinical under Amorim vs under ten hag so we probably would have scored 9 goals less with similar conversion as ten hag in the PL.
I believe our conversion rate is twice as good under Amorim than under ten hag but we are creating less than half as many chances.

The funny thing is , I reckon we’d be in a much better position in terms of organisation and some sort of plan had he taken over after ETH.
If we can’t get Poch I’d like to see Marco Silva from Fulham. He’s done a very good job there and can make people like Iwobi and Pereira into half decent footballers.
It's a poor record but the time to properly judge is next season at this stage.
Perhaps I'm clinging to false hope but I think it would have been quite easy to come in and get us around the European spots but that's the ceiling. Amorim is trying to get us higher.
If he's backed in the Summer, and he gets a goalscorer or two we can easily be back in the top four mix I reckon. Has any top club had such a lack of goals?

He could be lucky this Summer in that there's no big international tournament. Hopefully that'll mean a bit more rest for his players. I'm also hoping the board will get players in asap so they have the chance to settle.
In terms of results then perhaps it would have been better getting him in this Summer and then he wouldn't have the baggage of a poor league campaign. The flip side to that it that he'll have been able to make first hand judgements on players already so should be able to hit the ground running with a few good signings.
I must admit I like him and I like his honesty. He's not trying to pull the wool over our eyes with nonsense. He knows it's not good enough and whilst I don't think Scholes was right stating he hates the players I do think he thinks he would like to get rid of half of them!
Your team is performing like ours it seems. Both appear to be in the same boat but while Amorim inherited an underperforming club mid-season without signing players, Ange did all that and made us worse. Amorim would deserve a new season whether he wins the Europa or not. Ange wouldn't.

I also hope that while he is media friendly and honest, behind the scenes work is going on to try and give him the squad he wants. I don't think he realised how much work was needed or how hard it would be, especially given that we have at times put in some good performances
The mass delusion on here is insane. What manager honestly is coming here? Nobody of note is going to ruin their reputation here. The club is not as big as it used to be and is like a cancer nowadays. Better to avoid

I am both, getting in a few key players and a pre-season will really help, and on the flip side, how much difference will a pre-season and getting in a few players make?
I too like Amorim, his demeanour, but is that swaying me and that I am hoping too much rather than expecting? Only time will tell.
