Madders > Kulu

To be fair I dont think Kulu is fit yet. Apparently he was playing with a foot injury just before he was out injured.
He clearly isnt up to speed yet.
I do think Madders is better in midfield than him for some games thou and offers something that no other player we have has. Hopefully Bergvall can do what Madders does but also offer more. He has the potential to be a top top player.

We need to reach the final first before we can worry about that.

Bentancur was my MOTM
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah he was good too and that’s coming from someone who feels he also flatters to deceive, like all our CMs tbf except bergvall whos had a great second half of season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
100%

Felt for him with the deflection after such a great performance
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some fans description of players performances can be a bit weird..... Bents played well against a pretty avg team, missing their best players.....Lamine Yamal was "Great" against a very good Inter in a champs league semi !

I do wonder what some people are watching sometimes.... with all due respect
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t get what you’re saying.

Bentancur for me is our best all rounded midfielder.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He might we'll be but he aint up against much in team that will probably finish 17th with 20+ league defeats. Granted we should make the final Of Europe's B Comp (along with Man United who are also crap). The word great is not one I would use to describe anything about Spurs or their players this season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don't get why the league form is getting brought up. Different competition. Spurs form in the Europa us good, as is United's. The league has zero influence ver anything that happens in the Europa.

Spurs will put out a reserve side against West Ham, and their best side against Bodo.

It's 50/50. Spurs get near to full strength, they win. If they are having to play squad players they lose.

But let's just wait for the 2nd legs first.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We're getting back to full strength ourselves tbf.

De Ligt and Amad now back and they both massively improve us, Amad especially.

Even likes of Shaw and Mount are available which bolsters our bench.

It would make a hell of a final and could go either way really. I'd back us to do it given this would be our 4th final in 3 seasons if we make it. We've won 2/3 of them so far and only lost 2-1 to the City Treble team.

Regardless of name of the competition... we're still playing the same game... It's still football and the games come thick and fast. I don't care what anyone says, The PL is more competitive than the Europa.. The fact that Spurs and United are likely to make the final speaks volumes about the standard.... Both are bang average.. with that said, can only beat what's in front you and I hope we win it.

Spurs have a big enough squad and have spent plenty of money in the past few years to be competitive in the league while chasing a trophy.

Just my view..... The league position will get Ange sacked, A Europa league win wont save him...says it all

They have that 'spirit' when they came back to score 3 goals in how many minutes to clutch their quarter final 7-6?
But talking about averages I don't see many teams doing this game after game.
Examples:
We literally made the Champions League Final by, and this is an outlier when I always cry out "it's a team game, not individual-based", we made it all down to one superstar player: Lucas Moura. HE alone got us to the final and the fact Pochettino didn't pick him to play in the Final will never ever be forgiven. We must never forget this when peeps cry our for his return as a manager. Nosiree, and I don't give a flying fluck what picks Harry Kane ahead of Lucas Moura.
That game was probably the single most amazing game Sours have ever played, over in Amsterdam.

Next, the way we clutched the UEFA Cup Final to win it on penalties with Tony Parks in goal stepping in for Ray Clemence, another one in a million game.

Also the FA Cups in 81 and 82. None of these games were "boring" 1-0 anti-climaxes.

My point? We have yet to play one of these "outliers" in this competition, Utd have had theirs already.
This is what will make us with it, *if* we actually make it that far. Let's hope we aren't Bodo farewell...

Maddison is a luxury player. But I don't say this as an insult. Glenn Hoddle was a luxury player.

Modern football is a squad game and so as long as Maddison is used right he is an extremely valuable member of our squad.

On his day he is phenomenal and he won trophies with Leicester, FA Cup as well as PL title I think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope. He joined a couple of years after the PL win.

Yeah, sure, let's judge a manager from one decision

Let's get this right. Liverpool were a much better side than us anyway. They were favourites to win. If we'd played Moura and still lost, the narrative would have been "why did he leave our best player on the bench when he's fit?"

To use that as a reason to not bring him back is just absurd. It's such isolated thinking.

posted on 2/5/25

Lets face it, if we make a final with Man Utd then it's 50:50.

2 teams quite evenly matched. Both underperforming massively in the league and capable of much better (although i would say Uniteds problem are more widespread, ours are mainly just the coach and a couple positions).

If we make it then we will take confidence that we have thrice beaten them already this season while their fans will hope "it's just Tottenham lads" still rings true.

For me, what will count for a lot is confidence. United seem to be getting result with a bit of the rub of the green. Their QF was a shambles which the somehow survived. Last night they could have been 2 down before their lead with their first attack and then a red card changed it all (you dont usually get double jeopardy of red & pen, so they were a bit lucky there too). But all of that helps build a bit of confidence. Same for getting a late late equaliser at the weekend.

They are looking better now than they were and have dangerous players with Bruno probably being the best player amongst both teams, no his day.

All I would hope for is a largely fit squad. This season we have played Liverpool & Villa in the cups with bare bones, and lost.

But i also think that Ange cannot afford to just bench key players until the next Europe game. We need to build some of our own confidence and momentum so if we make the final we can go into the game with genuine belief and form.

We just have to be on our game.

It showed last night that even with a very solid display, when they had 1 shot on target, 7 touches in our box and Vic didnt make a save, we still managed to concede.

We cannot let them get too comfortable like we did in the 2nd half and we needed to maintain the intensity.

I though the team selection really did point to us being intense and then having fast fresh legs to come on. But the 2nd half our intensity dropped off, we began to cruise at 3 nil and when the fresh legs did come on we weren't really controlling the game (albeit that we comfortably had them at arms length).

We shouldn't be scared of their home form, we cannot let that get in our heads and make it a bigger thing than it actually is. an 8k capacity, plastic pitch. There's no way that should make a 3 goal advantage. We score, the ties over and that needs to be the focus.

Yeah recently (with him being poor) he has essentially been second striker and thats meant we have lost control. However he is still replacing maddison/his mf position.

Also, start of the season kulu was playing a lot deeper/CAM often instead of maddison. So its a fair comparison. I actually really liked when they were both in the middle, that was crazy, but team is so shot of confidence that can’t happen again
