There does need to be a sensible discussion about immigration but the likes of Tommy Robinson etc with their clear racism has made it difficult to have one. With such a following he could do a lot of good but chooses not to.

Obviously, there needs to be a way of controlling immigration but they vilify people for how they look as well. My colleague at work has a wife of Indian background (born in the UK) and goodness knows how she feels when she sees people the same colour as her being demonised.

The main issue, imo, is that many people seem either incapable or unwilling to understand the difference between immigrants (we 100% need these, there is no debate to be had), illegals immigrants (these cannot claim any form of benefits and are not housed in hotels either) and asylum seekers (which are placed in hotels but the number is so small that it’s genuinely inconsequential).

Until people are able to understand the difference, and actually take the time to understand the numbers, there’s not really any point in the discussion, because they are three VERY separate issues.

When I was growing up in the 80s there'd be loads of nicknames flying around like 'Steve Peeping Tom', 'Creepy Carl' etc. Looking back I'm sure those people were wronguns but it wouldn't have been the done thing to report them for inappropriate behaviour then (crazy I know!) as you'd be told off for telling tales.
