Even still, why would anyone have Liverpool over Newcastle? No-one fears Liverpool anymore. Again, this is where you dont seem to be up to date, or dont want to face it. Liverpool finished just above mid-table. Newcastle's current squad is way, way, way, better than Liverpool's. From No.1 to their front line.

Oh but Newcastles ONE season on a high has everyone quaking in the boots?! I'm not saying we are great or going to win the lague or even get 4th - i'm asaying if you have Newcastles ONE good season as reason to make the Genuine contenders for forth, then it is rediculous to not ahave us in ther too. Peter Drury put Liverpool 4th but in his text he confirms Liverpool will be the "fifth challenger".

As for Caroline Cheese - never heard of her, so dont know how to take her opinion.

You're wrong actually! I picked the ones on the home search page that weren't on liverpool forums! As I say, I am not a bias fan with blinkers on - I support my team, but i'm realistic (i think anyway!). The above just disproves your theroy that no-one thought we would come 4th - doesn't help my point at all, cos mine is based on fact and figures not feelign anyway!

I'd love for us to win it, and if we really went for it yes I think we'd be serious contenders. Given the wage budget and frustration with missing out on CL I'd be surprised if we did anything different to this season.

i.e. you suggest finishing 8th shows they were not genuine contender (the word 'hence' suggests this). Ergo - anyone not finishing 4th were not contenders!

I think any team who doesn't take the EL seriously is stupid - especially the one going for CL. What better wat to learn how to play/win in europe than play in some eastern european country! Tottenham are in with a very good shout - it's a strange competition where who you expects to be favourites don't usually win!

No, the FACT is, you can only be genuine contenders if you actually get near it & stay near it for a long period. Liverpool got to 6th back in January, other than that they were nowhere near contending for 4th. you were contending with Everton for 7th & 8th - thats about it.

I remember Hull almost topping the Premiership a few season back - they too didnt stay their long enough for fans to consider them genuine contenders to stay there.

I dont think anyone can deny that Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea & Newcastle were all genuine contenders for the Top 4 right the way upto the end of the season, whereas Liverpool were close to it for a week or so in January.

No, thats the whole point. A genuine contender does not stay in a position for just a week, they are there all season.

Just as Reading will not be genuine title contenders next season when we all start on zero points.
