The way work permit is given in the country makes it more difficult to sign players directly from clubs outside Europe.

Why do you think clubs in England rarely sign players from outside EU?

yeah but we cant raid SA, work permits and all that.

south americans are not allowed into the UK like they are in portugal though

2 years ago clubs in our country would not have been allowed to sign gaitan for example

In many ways, your right, south american/latin players are very technically gifted.
They are also however very prone to injuries.
The English game is much more suitable for these players now that you can be sent off for looking at a player in the wrong way.
The trouble is these players get homesick and they seem to have other reasons for coming to England, whether it be financial or maybe they just want to use the team as a stepping stone into the Barca/Madrid team.
If it were as easy as logging into football manager, looking at young south americans and then putting a cheeky bid in i think it would have happend by now.

We would've had Di Maria had it not been for the work permit problem... I heard.

Cant argue with that. Although i think Liverpool have cottoned on to this see Coates etc.

i understand, but why buy andy carroll, downing and henderson (eventhough i do think he'll be a good player very soon) when...

Aguero, Pato, mata and silva are going for 15-35m pounds.

We did it with Suarez, it's actually really easy to see if a players worth above 15m pounds - i bet all of you knew that Suarez and Aguero were top class players before they signed.

The liverpool forums were begging the club to sign silva for YEARS!! We all simply knew how good he was!

you've got it! Just sign good players not bad one's. Now why don't managers think of that? Genius.

I think Kennys done it the right way, it just doesnt seem like it because the new players are underperfoming.

KD has bought british players with Prem experience, no settling in needed (or so we thought) and with this if can get 4th, then it opens up to more talented players...its a process, KD is in phase one!

it sounds daft but it's true...

Look at nani, skill beyond belief 18m (he was always going to come good)

now look at babel (powerful shot, fast and a little bit of trickery) 11-12m

Guess which one worked out?

Biscan 5m, Kleberson 6.5m(skill) which one worked out?

got better
i wasn't talking about price - i was talking about SKILL!

I was merely stating that Nani and babel were both bought for comparable prices..

Ok Xavi!!!

posted on 25/1/12

yeah now ask yourself why these players were bought for such large sums of money, when they're clearly NOT THAT GOOD...

Where is the first touch?

Where's the passing game?

Where's the shot selection, ability to play whilst looking up?

Basic things

"Nani was named the SJPF Young Player of the Month for May 2007 and his performances with Sporting culminated into a move to English club side Manchester United in July 2007 for a fee of €25.5 million".

Work it out.

You have to have your quota of "home grown" players.

While this rule may force teams to buy more British, it also mean the inflated price of English talent will be inflated even further....Henderson & Jones worth +£16m at aged 19, and they're not even match winners

posted on 25/1/12

it's not just hindsight...

With 35m you could bid for players like.....

Borja Valero, Soldado, De rossi, Banega, Marvin Martin, (realistic targets)

all technically sound - not world beaters, but not a waste of time either!

Not yet they aren't but they could be in future. From what I have seen of Jones, he could be at the heart of England's defence in a couple of years and stay there. Henderson has shown that he has the potential. Of course neither were worth their fees but it does show what you have to pay for these types of players.

I mean in 2007 Spurs paid 10m for a very young Gareth Bale. Now that would have been around 16m. Look at him now. You have to pay for potential and British potential especially. If it works out, you're in business.

Barcelona have all but shown the world what makes a good football team: passing ability, close control and decision making...

----------------

But this is only half the story, You make no mention of how hard the player work off the ball hunting down the opposition in packs to retrieve possession.

Skill is no use if the player is a lazy barsteward, not willing to work for the team. If skill was the only ingredient, Bruno Cheyrou would have made it at LFC.

The Barcelona model is as rare as rocking horse kak, though.

It works for them because the vast majority of them are home grown players, or players bought up through their academy.

Arsenal are proof that buying all the best foriegn technically gifted players does not work if you want to win anything.

If Wenger had have kept a British spine to his team, instead of buying cheap Frenchies etc, I very much doubt we would have been so successful in recent years.

Don't forget Starvin Marvin!!
