I think it was a representative of the England Supporter's Club who suggested Guardiola. But the guy sounded like a prat to be honest, Barry Fry put him in his place
I'm fascinated what people's thoughts are on this because i think it tells you what folk want from a manager. Not just for England but also here at Town.
For me the answer is so obvious it's untrue. It has to be "the special one". People will laugh but in my eyes Jose is the greatest manager ever.
The man is an out and out winner!
Clark out... capello in!!!
He should have resigned after the WC, The FA/Capello have also boobed by not switching accomodation when they had chance after the draw, Based in Krakow when our three group games are in the Ukraine ! A fluent English speaking coach would be top of my priority, But the best outcome for now would be to keep Pearce for thr friendlies and ask Harry if he fancies running the show at the tournament with his pick of coaches and then look again after.
Please not prearce. I would like the special one. Now there's a winner.
They'll have someone already lined up Mirf.
& they'll give it time...so it looks like they have been beavering away behind the scenes.
The John Tewwee incident provided them with just the false flag excuse they needed, Capello was never going to accept a decision like that being made without his consultation....
They caused the problem, (the sacking)
he reacted. (what else could he do)
they'll provide the solution, (new appointment)
A formula that is used by the powers that be (in all walks of life) time & time again.
I'm with you btw.
An Englishman thankyou.
Harry isn't going to be feeling too English at the moment, especially as he's spent the last 5 years as English taxman's public enemy No.1
I reckon he'll keep his gob shut, till the FA come begging him, offering him even more that cRapello's 6 million a year....
Seeing as 6 of the premiership managers at the moment were born in the same town, don't be suprized if the next England manager is from that same town.....Oche Aye...
Hiddink would be my top choice, Get him now and give Harry the job after the WC, Not knacking Harrys relationship at Spurs.
Its another 2 years to wc
It'll be and English guy, guaranteed, and it'll be Redknapp..guaranteed.
foregt everything else...and maybe we will now get rid of all the effing italian coaches who have trained our english club managers to produce the kind of sheet which we see at the galpharm nowadays...it goes beyond just managing england, it;s the whole infastructure that needs changing...the english game is further behind the likes of germany and spain with regards to skills and coaching than its ever been..that's the bloomin italian influence for you..no more...lets get back to 'english' football, retrain all the FIFA badge coaches and concentrate on skill and team work ethic...and a bit of passion !!!!
Look at all the most successful countries in World Football such as Brazil, Spain, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Italy and France etc. and I think you will find that all of them appointed etheir own countrymen to run the national side.
So pray tell me, what does a foreign coach have going for him, which an"home grown" dosen't, because some of them can barely speak our language.
I just hope the FA don't bottle it and go for the Bookies second favourite Stuart Pearce, who has little or no experience in Management.
harry..with beckham and pearce assisting..
all 3 england fans.. the second 2 would play for england in a hurricane for nothing..
Harry the Lionheart !! For England and St George...
Tailor made for a new era of English dominance...at least he can speak a form of English..
If for some reason Harry dosen't want it, or fails to get the job, then if we insist upon another Englishman (excluding Scots, Irish & Welsh), then there is precious little left to chose from.
There's only the likes of Allardyce, McCarthy, Hodgson & Pardew to choose from, unless like Deano, they are prepared to take a punt on Wor Lee - Well they could do a lot worse and Wor Lee says he's a good manager himself.
well that's settled then..lee Clarke for England...(I don't think so).
If Harry doesn't want the job (which he will anyway), then non of the 4 you've mention cut the mustard for me..Allardyce..too dour, McCarthy...not enough experience of success..Hodgson..too erratic for me..Pardew..a remote possibility..It wouldn't be anyone outside the Prem League anyway...You haven't mentioned Pearce..who might be the obvious choice if they want 'succession', although McClaren sort of fooked up that plan didn't he ?
perhaps a Spaniard then ?
But this is all conjecture 'cos Harry will bite their hands off..
1. Barry Fry is an absolute moron and the points he raised on SSN last night were laughable.
2. The reason that we have an average at best national team is because of our history and culture, so why would we want to bring someone in who would only continue that?
3. Harry Redknapp would play 442 every match and we'd be lambs to the slaughter.
4. I'd be happy for Harry to take over on a temporary basis until after the Euro's, then we need a proper manager in.
5. If possible we should be all over Mourinho like a rash, tactically he suits us perfectly. However, rumours are he'd only take on another international job once he's managed Portugal.
So in summary. we don't have any good English managers. Nationality shouldn't matter, you hire who is best for the job and that would mean hiring another foreigner - fine by me. Capello did a very decent job - World Cup aside which he seemed to have learned from. We qualified with ease and against Spain found a tactical solution which fit us perfectly, an English manager would no doubt revert from that which would be a massive step backwards.
The amount of people who want Harry, especially the amount of people who think the next manager HAS to be English, is ridiculous.
I disagree Cas, Capello and Sven have had the facilities and organisation that no other England coaches have had, Add to that the ridiculous pay packets and the players at their disposal, Players who are regularly involved in the final stages of European competitions with their respective clubs, Both Sven and Capello have underachieved, The latter of course still unable to speak the lingo, Which is quite frankly ridiculous.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The players want Redknapp, I dont think i have ever read about a player having a serious fall out with "Arry", He wouldnt let the players walk all over him as Sven did, Nor would he feel the need to be "Il Duce" with them, As Cappello did, Redknapp is a no brainer appointment if only for the comp.
See my point number 4, Harry for the Euro's is a best case scenario but after that I think our best option will lie abroad.
So if Harry gets to the job and we have a glorious failure to a good side in the quarters or semis you would relieve Arry of his job ? El Tel should have been kept on after 96, It was a mistake that he did not, And the "foriegn coach" scenario has not worked, We need to stick with Brits, And if we are to go for a "tournament coach" who is a Johnny, Then their is nobody worth going for but Hiddink.
If Arry takes us to the semi's and we get shot down in a blaze of glory then he can keep the job. If we just have a decent tournament or a poor one then we should look elsewhere. Mourinho would be top of the list by a mile for me, tactically he's brilliant for us and he'd put all the ego's in check straight away because his is bigger than the rest combined!
Mirf, what's Guardiola's win ratio? If it's around 50% then England had better sign him up! Yes, I am being facetious.
I'm in two minds about 'Arry getting the job, I like Spurs and they would be losing a great manager if he left for England. However, I'd love to see how 'Arry would perform in the top job!
LV,
I'm not interested in Guardiola's win ratio, because the Spanish League is like the SPM and is dominated by two teams only, namely Real and Barcelona.
They are the top two wealthiest clubs in the World, with revenues of £420 Million and £395 Million respectively. So if they can't win everything between them there is something amiss, although I think Guardiola particularly is very over rated as a manager and I would like to see what he could do over here with say the likes of Bolton or Wigan.
So for me the only stand out man for England is Harry, as I don't believe that The FA and Mourinho could ever forge a good working relationship, and as I've said earlier, no other top foreign Country sees the need for a foreign manager, so why should we?
No, Harry has it all - Bags of experience, the players like him and want to play for him, he knows our players inside out, he understands our culture and what Football means to the fans, his teams play attractive football, he understands the Press and he's no one's mug, although he only has a very basic grasp of the English Language and has a face just like one of them Bulldog's of his and admits he's thick in most other aspects of life, but absolutely brilliant at being a Football manager - so what more can we ask for?
"he plays attract football" - And there lies the reason why he'd be a failure as England manager, we don't have the quality of players needed to play attractive football as effectively as the really good teams. Mourinho for me by a million miles.
Lets face it, unless Mourinho is working for the most wealthiest club in whichever country he's operating in, then he will struggle. He's good at buying up the worlds best players as he did at Chelsea and welding them into a formidable unit, but put him charge of England where the money factor does not come into it and he would struggle big time.
He hasn't cracked many pots in the couple of years he's been with Real - why?, because Barcelona can more than match him in the transfer stakes and ensure all the World's best players don't fall into his hands..
