Far too early to judge the lad. Many people seem to forget that young players do not tend to be consistent. Moving to a club like Liverpool is a big ask and the pressure must be immense. Especially as the fee was pretty big. I think that he will come good in a couple of years.
I feel sorry for the lad.
He didn't ask to be valued at £16-20m, and I am sure he doesn't ask to play right mid every game.
I was pleased with his 2nd half yesterday because he was having a nightmare 1st half but stuck at it and showed the character he will need to get through this spell.
I am sure he will become a very good player, in the meantime we have to stick with him and he could do win Kenny being a bit fairer on him too, though in Kenny's defence we are not exactly stacked with right sided players, hence the constant fudging of Downing, Henderson and Kuyt into that position.
I am sure this will be a priority in the summer, allowing Henderson to fight for a centre mid spot next season.
Henderson is simply an average premiership player. He wouldn't get in at least 50% of Prem first XI's, maybe more, and as Scribe says, his pricetag hasn't helped matters either.
Verdict = Bad buy.
Henderson won't be a flop. Dont see how he would be TBH. Henderson will serve Liverpool long and hard. We shall sing his name at Anfield in the future. I am sure of it.
I reckon he'll come good, just needs a bit of time to settle. Carroll will also be come good given time, but not good enough to get us champions league football. I still think we need a top striker to come in this summer. Along with a quick tricky RW.
Very hard to judge a young player of his age at a new club in less than a season. Especially when he has played a lot of games out of his favoured poition.
Fans certainly should not be writing him off yet.
Elvis,
Far too early to judge the lad

I dont believe it is too early. He has been at Liverpool for 7 months or so, which is a decent period of time to pass judgement.
Obviously, nobody can predict the future of any player, you only need look at the opposite side & admire players like Holt for Norwich, for example, whereas you would expect Henderson to at least look like he is a fish "in" the Anfield waters - opposed to "out", which is where he currently is.
He'll be a good player, he does have confidence issues, though.
I really think his true position is in central midfield, although again confidence would be a big factor in his running and passing.
I think one of his best assets is his one-touch passing, which is completely negated when he's out wide. He doesn't deserve shedloads of criticism because he's being played out of position, but at the same time he's had some very poor games.
Henderson is simply an average premiership player. He wouldn't get in at least 50% of Prem first XI's,

Definitely not on the right of midfield but if we can get to see him play often through the middle then alot more clubs would wish they had him on their books.
Henderson will become a very good central midfielder. He's being played out of position.
We need to give him some time, and get off his back. We did the same to Lucas and look how he turned out.

When a player joins a big club from a smaller one it often takes time to adapt. We see it at United all the time. Especially with younger players. They have to settle in and feel like they belong, before they have the confidence to perform to their potential.
A prime example being Valencia. He looked a little overawed when he moved to OT and although he did ok, it was plain to see he was playing within himself. He has gradually improved as he has gained confidence and belief that he deserves to be at a club like United. Last season he was much improved - this season possibly our best player.
Even if Henderson doesnt develop into a first team regular, he will be a good squad player. If he stays for ten years then the fee will be justified.

I disagree. what about players like berbatov who were cack for around two seasons after moving to Man-U?!?!
Of all Liverpool's 2011 UK signings I have most confidence in Henderson being a success. I personally see him as a tempo setting central midfielder - he always seems to look for first time passes, keeps things short and the ball moving.
The big problem at the moment is that I don't think he's ready to play that role for us just yet. As such he gets jettisoned to the right of midfield where at times he's looked a little bit lost.
At the moment his confidence looks shot to pieces and if I were KK then I'd take him out of the firing line for the time being, build his confidence back up in training and give him off the bench cameos in central midfield for the rest of the season.
I still believe JH can and will be a big player so us but it's a learning curve and I think he's had a tough first season.

I know what you're saying but i still feel 7 months is a decent amount of time for us to make an initial judgement.
The same could be said on the flipside, if a player does well (the player i sued in this example was Holt), then i feel it is fair to comment on the fact he was a good buy. As such, if players dont impress in their first season (or 2) i feel, as football fans, we can pass judgement on the signing not being a good one to date.
I'm not saying that we have to judge a player's whole career based on his first season, but i feel its a decent period of time to make a fair call.
This comment goes for any player - not just Henderson.

Have you never passed a fair judgement on a player over this period of time?
How do yo think Krul of Newcastle has performed over the last 7 months in the Prem?
Or would you say this was "too soon" to pass judgement as well? Krul hasn't just had one good game, he's had many over the season. As such, i think it would be fair to say he has been a good signing to date. Just because we are debating on the flipside, doesnt mean the period of time is irrelevant.
As for supporting Chelsea, booger off
Lol - just kidding about Chelsea
Are you trying to say 7 months to judge if a player is right for a team, or if a player is any good full stop?

Holt has got about a decades worth of experience on Henderson and was joining Norwhich, not Liverpool. Henderson also cost 40 times more than Holt.
Holt hasn't always been this good though, its taken until he's nearly 30, both him and Ricky Lambert were playing for Rochdale in League 2 a few years ago. Henderson was already a top flight footballer and won the the young player of the season twice for sunderland, he already knows the league and he has the potential but to judge a 21 year old over 7 months is shocking, if he were to of come out of the youth academy he would be given more time.

Krul has been at Newcastle since 2006.
wow good post Elvis
he split their defence at least 3-4 times last night with one touch passes. He's done the same in quite a few matches.
His biggest problem is confidence / lack of assertiveness. He doesn't quite look like he's sure if he's supposed to taking initiative or not.
He's got no shortcomings in the skills department though.
If he never really comes out of his shell he'll end up a disaapointment. If he does then he'll be a great signing.
To early to tell yet.
