RUMOURS: Arsenal, Man Utd & England's big five clubs in talks over QUITTING Champions League

The promise of a guaranteed windfall and continental football on a yearly basis has attracted the attention of club directors, who reportedly met with Stephen Ross on Tuesday

Representatives of five of the Premier League's most powerful clubs have met to discuss the possibility of breaking away from the Champions League, according to The Sun.

Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck (below), Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, Manchester City’s chief executive Ferran Soriano and Liverpool’s Ian Ayre were snapped leaving London's Dorchester Hotel.

And the newspaper reports that the five were in talks with Miami-based businessman Stephen Ross over forming a European Super League, made up of the continent's elite clubs.

The proposal, if successful, would mean the end of the Champions League, while the new competition would limit the possibility of big clubs missing out due to poor domestic performance, as was the case for United last season and most likely Chelsea and Liverpool in 2016-17.

What do you guys think about this idea?

Because it doesn't make sense.

Maybe reading through it a couple more times wouldn't have made any difference then.

This article sheds more light on it and perhaps what it's true intentions are. It makes sense as just a day or two ago it was announced Chelsea would be playing Liverpool in the states on July 27th (I think it was) Venue to be decided.

Seems to be the usual media manipulation of a few basic facts.

Extract:
Ross' organisation is behind the International Champions Cup (ICC), a tournament that sees top sides from around the world take each other on in pre-season, and it is understood the meeting was primarily around it.

Sorry Adam the interview, I had not seen your post but totally agree.

It never amazes me how quickly people forget the levels the media will stoop to for a headline. If they took the time to read the stories behind the headlines they would see in most case there is very little substantial detail to support the story.

i would stop watching football if this happened.
the game would become hollow and soulless

I like the fact that mid table fodder spurs and Leicester can actually have a pop at the title
I like the drama, it be boring otherwise

Elitism and money is killing the game

Agreed.
