I watched yesterday’s game a second time.
I still think that stupid fouls, poor goalkeeping, and some selfish plays by Pellistri and McT cost us the game. I still don’t get ETH’s substitutions. I still think Bruno is not a good captain. People hailed his decision to give Rashford the ball for the penalty against Everton. Assuming it’s a good thing to do (which is not), that’s not the kind of situation where a good captain is needed. When the sea is calm any idiot can sail; it’s during the storm that true captaincy reveals itself. And here we have to admit that when United are in trouble, Bruno’s presence doesn’t help. Quite the reverse.
That being said, I think that we are improving as a team, especially in terms of goals and fitness; and I am quite certain that we’ll finish the season stronger. I also believe that Antony (and Mount) will turn out to be good signings.

Not to be that person but it still stinks. Defence is still very shoddy, with Onana and Maguire the unquestioned best players in our "turn around ". Still with that are giving up 10+ chances a game. His midfield tactics is putrid and this weekend we are going to watch rashford and Bruno give us a usual underwhelming performance.
Shaw is a massive plus. Garnacho is improving. Mainoo is godsent at this point. But we still have viruses that need an incision.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Reasons to be cheerful, the attacking potential. The joy Mainoo and Nacho are giving us is immense.
Areas to address: game management, control and defensive awareness. May not be possible with the current collection of players.
You'll look back on all the bumps, all the errors, and appreciate the success far more in a few years. Patience, mate, patience!
We need to find the right balance between the gung ho attacks and loose defending from the CL and cautious approach from the league. Eth can do better as can the current, albeit limited, squad.

I’ve defended Antony more than most and yes he’s bad a couple of very poor displays before last night but he’s better than some give him credit for.
Garnacho is showing signs that he is coming of age.
I’d give both of them a run in our wide areas.

I wish our "fans" would stop writing people off so early, that also includes the manager. Imagine your boss at work lacking belief in you!

Football is a funny old sport. A game where managers can waste billions, get fired with the entire planet knowing about it, and still get another job easily.

It was undoubtedly the closest to being the best team-like performance this season. Not great, but it's all relative
However, as a caveat, the performances always improve when rashford doesn't start. So we'll have to wait and see if that "progress" is real or a blip
As for mctominay and pellistri, well that's because they are not actually good enough for this club anyway
The former is useless at the best of times - although I'm beginning to think sticking him up front might not be such a bad idea. He can't do so much damage to his own team in that position, indeed, he could turn out be quite a nuisance alongside players like martial and hojlund
As for fernandes being captain, or not, that's kind of irrelevant. It's largely nothing more than a nominal and unnecessary label. His contribution as a player is second to very few.
And yes, Mount and Anthony are undoubtedly two of the club's better current player.
Still need to get rid of dalot and lindelof really sharpish though. There is much better available.

Ten Sacked took out Amrabat for Mainoo at 1-3 and Gala created more clear cut chances after that. Shot himself in the foot there IMO

Not calling you out, but what were the selfish plays from Pellestri and McT? Surely not shooting from range?

They are somehow supposed to pass the ball to people being marked even after making the space in front of the post. Somehow if your shots are off target or require good saves from their goalie, you facked up.

We have conceded 71 shots on goal in the last 4 games. That is ridiculous when youblook at who the teams are. We are not improving, we are melting like butter and allowing teams to walk through us.
