I think saying players are crap signings when we are just 9 PL games into their first season just epitomises tge increasingly short term and knee jerk perspective of tge modern football fan.
Gittens is another great example,, he has spent most of this season so far being written off, then after just two decent performances,he is now flavour of the month. Again, a player in his first season, at a new club, just 9 games in.
Why is the rethink incessant need to judge players so quickly and without context? I find it strange.
I still want to see way more from Gittens
In all fairness that was against a 2nd string Wolves side

Unless I'm mistaken nobody here has actually called Delap a crap signing as such. There's a marked difference between saying a player has been crap so far and prematurely judging a player as a crap signing overall at this stage of the season.
Presumably Delap has years ahead of him as a Chelsea player so whether or not he's a crap signing overall is something we'll be able to judge in the future. At the same time there's no getting away from the fact that so far his signing has been more than a bit disappointing for all the reasons discussed previously.
Just don't think you need to work in absolutes.........it's a strange thing people sometimes do here. Has Delap been crap that has just cumulated in him getting sent off after a 3 month lay off....yes. Could he end up being our best striker this season, yes. That isn't a knee jerk reaction, that's just stating the facts. Was Gittens pretty rubbish/fooking awful up to a few weeks ago? Yes, yes he was - has he played well the last few games? yes. Is he gonna tear the Spuddlings a new one on the weekend? Maybe. Saying he was good now and crap at the start? No it's facts, not a knee jerk. A knee jerk is saying Delap should be sold, and given no more game time........no one has said that, that I am aware.
Stop working in absolutes and pretending that what other members are doing, they aren't.

And that takes us back to the club's recruitment strategy, where their total obsession on only signing inexperienced potential talent, at the expense of any semblance of signing players with mature leadership qualities comes at price.
Even the best managers need enforcers in the dressing room and on the pitch. Fegie needed Roy Keane, Jose needed John Terry and had the leadetship bonus of Lampard and Drogba.
Someone in our dressing room needs to be Maresca's enforcer. I am not sure who that is though.
We picked up Liverpools former recruitment guy, Dave Fallows, who worked with Klopp to build his team so hopefully he tells our owners the bleedin obvious about whats needed

Enzo Maresca clarifies his comments on Delap against Wolves:
🗣 "I'm not from England, so sometimes when I try to translate from Italian to English, it's a bit different. When Liam is on the pitch, he is more focused to try his battle with the defender.
That's what I was trying to say. There are three players in this team that I know better than the rest, Lavia, Palmer and Delap because I knew them from City U21s. I know Liam will be a fantastic player for us, but there are some things he can improve."
~ @BobbyVincentFL
🗣 Enzo Maresca: "I don't need to speak with Liam. I spoke with him but he knows everything.
He is aware of the situation. He knows he made the mistake. Full stop, no more than that."

Yep, good window. Felipe Luis was a solid signing too.
Even the Cuadrado-Salah trade might've worked out in a different world as well. Cuadrado would've been an upgrade for Conte on Moses & Zappacosta at RWB.

I do feel bad for him. He can be fantastic on his day, but some players are just not built for the PL. If he’s not too badly injured I still think he can be a success in Italy. But I’m delighted we managed to get him off our books.
