Tennis star Roger Federer has responded to climate change critics - including campaigner Greta Thunberg - by saying he takes the issue very seriously.

Activists oppose Federer's sponsorship deal with Credit Suisse over its links to the fossil fuel industry.

Some appeared in court this week after refusing to pay a fine for playing tennis inside Credit Suisse offices in 2018 to highlight Federer's deal.

Watford climbed above Bournemouth and out of the relegation zone for the first time this season after a convincing victory over the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium.

Abdoulaye Doucoure capitalised on an error by Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers to fire home the opener from six yards shortly before half-time.

Hornets captain Troy Deeney then doubled Watford's advantage midway through the second half with a powerful close-range effort after Ismaila Sarr's cross fell into this path.

Substitute Roberto Pereyra completed the win in stoppage time with a fierce volley after Andre Gray's shot had been cleared off the line by Ryan Fraser.

The win means Watford have now collected 13 points from six Premier League matches since Nigel Pearson's appointment last month.

Bournemouth, in contrast, have now lost nine of their last 11 Premier League matches to drop to second bottom and leave manager Eddie Howe under increasing pressure.

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez will be out for four months following a knee operation on Sunday.

The Uruguay striker suffered an injury to the external meniscus on his right knee and was operated on by Spanish surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat.

Suarez played the whole match as Barcelona were beaten 3-2 by Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

The 32-year-old has scored 14 goals in 23 games for Barcelona this season.

Two decades have passed since the government lifted a ban on gay people serving in the British armed forces.

While LGBT correspondent Ben Hunte says the forces are "now seen as some of the UK's most inclusive employers", that wasn't the case before 12 January 2000.

He's been hearing from three people who have had very different experiences of being LGBT in the military.

Retired Pope Benedict XVI has issued a defence of priestly celibacy in the Catholic Church as his successor considers easing a ban on married men serving as priests.

Pope Benedict made the appeal in a book co-authored with Cardinal Robert Sarah.

It comes in response to a proposal to allow married men to be ordained as priests in the Amazon region.

Pope Benedict, who retired in 2013, said he could not remain silent on the issue.
