Crystal Palace's first home match in a major European competition proper ended in disappointment with a shock Conference League loss to AEK Larnaca at Selhurst Park.
The Cypriot Cup winners struck in the 51st minute when Eagles defender Jaydee Canvot gave the ball straight to Marcus Rohden who teed up Riad Bajic to find the net with a powerful finish.
In front of an expectant crowd, Palace had been dominating up to that point and striker Jean-Philippe Mateta hit the crossbar with a bouncing hooked volley from close range in the first half.
The Frenchman also narrowly headed a free-kick wide just before the break and was denied by keeper Zlatan Alomerovic's stunning save from point-blank range in the 70th minute.
Substitute Eddie Nketiah should have levelled in a late rally from the hosts, but completely missed a loose ball from five yards out.
Palace, who had a strong starting XI, finished on top but were unable to break down Larnaca's resilient defence as they suffered a first home defeat in all competitions since February.
While Oliver Glasner's side are 16th in the table on three points, a second win in the competition for the visitors moved them joint top with Fiorentina.

Sheffield Wednesday have been placed in administration and hit with an automatic 12-point deduction by the EFL.
Julian Pitts, Kris Wigfield and Paul Stanley of Begbies Traynor have been appointed joint-administrators after it was revealed His Majesty's Revenue & Customs were set to issue a winding-up petition against the club.
Staff have been briefed, while administrators also held a meeting with players. The Owls host Oxford United at Hillsborough on Saturday (15:00 BST) with the club bottom of the Championship and now on -6 points.
While enforcing the immediate deduction, in a statement the EFL said that administration was "the opportunity to move matters towards a successful sale and secure future under new ownership".
The move into administration effectively ends Dejphon Chansiri's decade-long ownership of the club with the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust confirming their boycott of matches is over.
Seats spelling out Chansiri's name in the North Stand at Hillsborough were removed on Friday afternoon.
In a statement, Sheffield Wednesday said administrators were appointed, "following significant efforts to agree a sale to a credible future custodian in recent weeks which unfortunately could not be concluded and amid rising pressure from creditors."

Queen Sirikit, the mother of Thailand's King Vajiralongkorn, has died aged 93.
She passed away "peacefully" in a Bangkok hospital at 21:21 local time (14:21 GMT) on Friday night, according to the Thai Royal Household Bureau.
Sirikit had "suffered several illnesses" while in hospital since 2019, including a blood infection this month, it added.
For more than six decades, Queen Sirikit was married to Thailand's longest-reigning monarch King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died in 2016.
Queen Sirikit suffered a stroke in 2012, after which she was rarely seen in public.
She met her future husband while studying music in Paris, where her father was stationed as Thai ambassador to France.
The couple married on 28 April 1950, just a week before King Bhumibol was crowned in Bangkok.
As a young couple in the 1960s, Queen Sirikit and King Bhumibol travelled around the world, meeting US presidents Dwight Eisenhower, the late Queen Elizabeth II - as well as Elvis Presley.
During that decade, she frequently made international best dressed lists.
In 1980, Queen Sirikit featured in a BBC documentary about the Thai monarchy, called Soul of a Nation.
In the rare interview, she said: "Kings and queens of Thailand have always been in close contact with the people and they usually regard the king as the father of the nation.
"That is why we do not have much private life, because we are considered father and mother of the nation."
She was seen as a key maternal figure for the country, with her birthday marked as Mother's Day.

Kian Spence's second-half strike gave Rotherham their first win at Oakwell in more than 50 years as they beat Barnsley 1-0 in League One.
The Millers started the game poorly and Barnsley should have taken the lead in the second minute but David McGoldrick could only hit the post with his header from inside the box.
Barnsley came close again in the 35th minute through captain Luca Connell but his free-kick from the edge of the area was superbly tipped wide by Millers' goalkeeper Cameron Dawson.
Spence scored the winner for Matt Hamshaw's side in the 64th minute after hitting a superb 20-yard strike past Murphy Cooper in the Barnsley goal.
It was Rotherham's first win at Oakwell since 1970 and the result extended Barnsley's winless run in the league to five games.
The Millers are now just one point behind Barnsley in the table.

Coventry City cemented top spot in the Championship and further enhanced their status as English football's most potent attacking force with a 3-1 home victory over Watford.
Two goals inside seven minutes for Frank Lampard's Sky Blues, from Brandon Thomas-Asante and Jamie Allen, put them in control of an entertaining match early on.
A third from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and a red card for Watford's James Abankwah before half-time effectively put the game to bed.
The visitors did pull one back from the penalty spot on 68 minutes via Imran Louza but Coventry coasted to a sixth win on the trot to extend their lead to four points at the top of the table before the afternoon kick-offs.

Catherine Connolly has been elected as the president of Ireland after a landslide victory.
She has become the 10th president of the Republic of Ireland after defeating Fine Gael's Heather Humphreys, who had already conceded to her rival.
The result, long clear from early tallies, was officially declared at Dublin Castle.
Connolly – an independent who was backed by the major left-wing parties – pledged to be "an inclusive president for all" in her acceptance speech.
The 68-year-old, from Galway, has been a TD (member of the Irish parliament) since 2016.
She will be the country's 10th president, taking over from Michael D Higgins who has served the maximum two terms in office
Connolly secured 914,143 first preference votes (63%), the largest amount in Irish presidential election history.
She made her acceptance speech first in Irish and then in English.
"I will be a president who listens and reflects and who speaks when it's necessary," she said.
"I will be a voice for peace, a voice that builds on our policy of neutrality, a voice that articulates the existential threat posed by climate change, and a voice that recognises the tremendous work being done the length and breadth of the country."
Dublin correspondent Gabija Gataveckaite said Connolly was the anti-establishment candidate who took on Humphreys, the government's pick.
She said in recent weeks, Connolly had been insisting her campaign was a "movement" and she has now won a clear mandate from the people.
