Back to the article itself, would you guys be happy with a one team league? As long as that team is United?
I mean, Celtic are 18 points clear in the SPL and you can tell all the excitement is gone. No more Old Firm games to look forward to. Imaging the viewing figures for the Manchester derby last April? Do you think you can generate that type of interest if United are 20 points clear?
I guess that's what we want for the PL.

United didn't spend a single penny of the flotation money on players. Most went to the existing owners, the rest on infrastructure. Furthermore United haven't spend more than turnover in a single season since the 1930's.

I think its safe to assume some United fans on here have not taken time to learn about their team's history.
It took Fergie 5 years in charge of United before he won the league. During this period, he was backed with heavy spending which saw him broke the British transfer record 5 times. And the money spent was raised through stock floatation (NOT EARNED as in your definition of earn). He was even almost getting the chop before he won the FA cup.
Also, Rodwell is £12m, Sinclair is £8m, Garcia is £15m and Maicon is £3m. I don;t think that adds up to £60m.
Compare that to Jones £20m, Bebe £7m, Young £15m, Carrick £28m.
And what would be the equivalent in todays money for the obscene amount you paid for Rooney & Rio?

******************************

Still not understanding your point. You point out clearly all the salient points of the one overall theme of my post; IT TAKES MORE THAN MONEY! It takes patience, spending on targets that are as reliable as they are capable, having a youth set up to rely on and most importantly been a freaking good manager.

United has spent bucket loads of money (money which they earned but I guess that is just semantics in this topic). In those 5 yrs of spending, breaking records, the manager was given time to prove the ability he showed in toppling the scottish giants was no fluke. When he signed headcases (of which cantona was) he made sure the financial harm was worth the risk. Rooney, rio et al may be big name signings but they were bought with long term goals. Over the duration of their stay, their transfer fees have been justified. A quick calculation of average transfer fees over the years shows the difference compared to what chelsea and city have embarked on.

YET our spending has not led to constant changes in managers or a high turnover of players. On the other hand, our spending led to stability of the squad. It takes more than money, it also takes managment both in the coaches seat and the boardroom.

Have I wandered not a parallel univers? There is a post, on here telling us city haven't broken the trans record, haaaaaaaa, maybe not but in the past four years you have spent almost a billion quid, and pay massive wages. I'm almost in tears for city here!

all I have going through my head is the line from James "if I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor". You had a slight glimpse of what it is to be us, only to have it snatched away in the blink of an eye. Its almost as if Fergie has pulled off the cruelest trick of all time.

Just because your family doesn't think that, doesn't make it untrue.

The greatest P.L Manager knows exactly how crucial he is to our team. In fact, since he's been here, I believe he's played around 90%-95% of all our games. He's averaging at least 45 games per season.

Just because we have great attackers, isn't the reason why we win the league alone.

It takes more than money to win of course.

but in the cashmoney premier league, you have no chance at a title unless you can swing a cat in training and hit 5 £15-20 mil pound squaddies and a few 'stars' in the £25-30mil range.

That's the minimum cover charge.

United have it, City have it, Chelsea have it.

No one else has a chance unless a billionaire joins the party.

I think you may have wandered into a parallel universe actually.
City did not start the paying of silly wages. City needed to pay top wages to attract the type of talent it wants. If you pay peanuts, guess what you will have for footballers? Moving from Benjani to Aguero is a huge milestone and that cost money pal.

United earn it, City and Chelsea get given it. ...one of these things is not like the others two of these things are kind of the same.... (OK I am showing my age with that one)

If it wasn't for Rafa's fakht sheet and his dubious tactics, you would have won the league that season. You beat us home & away, and you did it convincingly.

Sir Alex could take any of the top 5 and win the league.

when did Paisley manage in the Premier League ? was it in this fabled parallel universe ?

Injuries to Torres and none for Ronaldo was the difference between the sides that year.

Rafa almost did the impossible.

arsenal used to be out rivar, liverpool nearly were too with bentiez. to a lesser extent newcastle too.

city and chelsea came along and replaced them two with their riches

to say the league would be for one team is a joke. if chelsea and city didnt steal the best players from the rivals then anything would have happened. both are a cancer to the premier league.

city, are a sinking ship. tick tock :D

Man. City, turn out the lights, the party's over!

So city won last year and spent more than us this year but still blamr lack of investment for where they are. If you had given the players closer to what they deserve rather than the blank cheque then you would have attracted players with a bit more heart and pride for the shirt. I thought this will be the moment when peope will realize that money alone cant buy you consistent sucess but on the other hand I see city fans are already throwing toys out of the pram!

Ha I don't recall anybody forcing you to pay players like RSC Ade Surridge et al £90k a week, so don't be a fecking barmpot, before we know it you'll be blaming us for your wage bill........

Oh that's right you already have

Underestimate Mancini at your peril.
Arsenal & Liverpool had to spend big to stay with you guys. Once Arsenal players left, they were not replaced and the rest is now history.
I hope you guys get a 20 point lead going into April and lets see if you will get the same excitement as last season.

i hope we get a 20 point lead too, then we can take it easy and concentrate on the rest of the treble. sounds exciting to me.

Mancini is sh7t

I would have sacked him in summer but the Owners had the same problem Roman did, a manager who wasn't good enough who had just won something.

You wouldn't return the trophy but it gives you a massive hangover you didn't want.

City will be remembered as the team who spent lots of money and happened to be in second place when United had their own blow up in a decade.
