of course they will listen amd might even take on board what Fergie thinks (if they part amicably), or if they dont they are idiots... but the decision isn't just Fergie's. He's not even a member of that board.

For example if I was on that board and Fergie recommended say, OGS, (I dont think he will) I would ignore that advise and recommend somebody else.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I never said the decision was just fergie's. He will be able to influence the decision and will be a person who will command the most respect for his opinion.

If you were to suggest someone else you would have to build a case so to speak in order to show your candidate was a better choice. Like in any search for a new manager.

I think Fergie would suggest moyes long term. Very simlar to himself and matt busby in certain aspects.

Matt Busby recommended Wilf McGuinness and Edwards was swayed by that. It was a mitigating disaster and started a chain of events that ended up in Div2 5 years later.

Your Busbys and maybe even Fergie dont always know best.

..............

As I said earlier, this was more to do with Sir Matt not leaving the club with any young players when he retired.

Sir Matt failed to address the lack of motivation from the senior players after 68. George Best refered to this many times.

Likewise Sir Matt hung around, and this had an effect on Wilf.

He may well have not been the right man, but the odds were stacked against him from the outset.

My choice would be Mourinho (atm).

But I can see the benefits of Moyes.

I can see your points but I think SAF and Bobby will have a big say and most of us do trust them.

But if SAF and Bobby choose Mcleish for example, I am certain the Glazers would intervene and decide what is best for the club and go for someone with experience and know how in Europe.

Im warming upto the idea of Pep though.

I think it will be pep as his contract is two years at bayern and fergie has said about 2 years. It will time in well.

Also fergie done the forward in a book about pep. Has lots of time for him. Plus i think he handles himself better than jose and it all wont revolve around the manager like it does with jose.

The only question is can he do it outside of Barca? We will find out in the next two years. If he can i believe it will be him after fergie.

100% agree.

Bayern already have a good platform and I reckon Pep will come in and continue the good work although I am sceptical about his signings.

If Bayern win the CL under Pep then expect Pep at United when SAF retires.

It isn't up to Sir Alex to appoint the next manager but my belief is it will almost certainly be his choice, and will probably already be decided

The Glazers wouldn't have the first clue and Ed Woodward wouldn't have the knowledge of how good other managers are, and whether they would be a good fit to follow Fergie's legacy, anywhere near as much as Fergie

Fergie will ulimately make the decision who is best placed to be his successor. The board will just endorse it unless people think Uncle Malc is gonna say, 'thanks for your advice Sir Alex but nah, I prefer the other guy'

Not gonna happen

Sir Alex has guided this club to unprecedented success. He will be the one who decides who succeeds him

Just my opinion of course

Yes i think the timing could be perfect for both us and Pep.

And Pep is big on 1 year contracts so after those meetings in New York it is funny Pep's signed for 3 years and SAF is happy to carry on for "longer".

SAF will probably also see out Welbeck, Powell, Smalling, Jones and Cleverley's development and leave behind a very good team for whoever takes over.

Also Pep beat SAF in the CL twice, surely thats got to impress him, I can feel Pep in my bones.

Not to mention DeGea, Rafa, Fabio, Zaha, Chich and hopefully a couple of reserves - Will Keane and maybe even Januzai

yeah i was starting to think this was it for SAF if we won the league back until he went to New York. As Fergie has stated in the last year he wants to cut his travel down. So A trip over to NYC and meet Pep had a purpose. Then afterwards fergie said about another few years.

I had begin to wonder about that crop - will they be caught in the middle of their development having manager changes. Would make sense to develop them then go.

Plus i would love to see Ronaldo play under Fergie again but that's just being greedy!

Absolutely, SAF has the future in mind and will no doubt want someone he chooses to take over the crop.

I have to say as much as I will miss SAF the future looks bright I am excited.

As I said earlier, I'm certian it will be Guardiola. Due to some of the players he had at his disposal, I do think he is underrated in this country. Tactically, the man is simply a genius and I think he would be a perfect fit for United.

In terms of Moyes, I've said before, but I'm not sure about him. There is a lot in his demeanor (and I don't just mean him being scottish!) that reminds me of Ferguson and I personally don't think that is the right way for you guys to go - in a way, I think you should consciously not go for a like for like replacement as no one can fill those shoes, it would be a constant comparison. I'm also not massively convinced by Moyes tactically. Yes he has done fairly well at Everton, particularly in the players he has bought, but I don't see a massive difference between his long ball tactics and other teams that are criticised heavily for playing in a similar way, apart from the fact that he has a better standard of player at his disposal.

"compare Moyes net spends of 10 million in 10 years to Liverpools 180 million in 10 years,

are they 170 million better than Everton ?"

well I'd imagine we've taken more than 17 mil a year on average in CL, prize money, and the resulting sponsorship than everton so yes.

there's also those shiny silver things that sit in our cabinet at Anfield
