as a chelsea fan i think maybe he has lost abit of motivation he has won alot with Man U maybe needs a new challenge but his talent hasn't diminished at all he might not have the tenacity he had when he was 16 but who does. If he wants to leave man u i wouldnt mind him at chelsea.
I feel his is technically as good if not better. Mentally he has lost something and itall started around the leaving to City thing.
I hope he finishes his career at United, goes on to break all of our scoring records. I doubt he'll get anywhere near Giggs and possibly Scholes in terms of appearances, purely because of his physique.

We'll swap him for Hazard, Oscar and you have to persuade Drogba to come and partner RVP.
I blame:
Modern tv/internet saturation with football. People probably get worn out with the never ending footy on their screens.
A dumber, more uncouth, more obnoxious modern society that's offended and angry about everything. This makes for a more polarized, polemic game that ensures people find it hard to uniformly get behind national players who play for opposing clubs.
Too many glory hunting, sing-when-you're-winning fans who can't bring themselves to support a mediocre England.
And finally, the antipathy towards international football is overplayed. The WC and Euros will always dominate the media waves and viewership when they're on.
I think it's more the fact he's grown up and has a family. Maybe 5/10 years ago football was more important to him but now he has a kid his priorities change.
I still think he has that 'passion' in him, it's just more controlled. What's more important is his actual football ability seems to have got worse.

Speaking of which, when were they allowed to start saying 'bit ch' on tv and radio pre-watershed ?
you could of had drogba befor he went to Turkey but hands of Hazard and Oscar.
What has he lost mentally? He turns up in far more big games and at far more important moments than he did when he was younger.
This is due to the added responsibility as being the main man at United.
However, as a footballer, he is slower, weaker, less ambitious when he plays and doesn't possess the same ball control, passing, dribbling or creativity that he did before.
He's got better movement in the box and has improved his finishing (bar long range strikes) and composure.
He's improved mentally and tactically but regressed technically and physically. You're so far wide of the mark, TOOR.
I hope Chelsea sign Rooney for 50 million. He's a proven PL striker just entering his prime years, his performances have dropped off for some reason and his fans seem indifferent towards him. What could go wrong?

What has he lost mentally?
--------------------------
I already explained that.
Oh, he doesn't get wound up and therefore is not a liability. That doesn't mean he's lost it mentally.
This idea that Rooney has lost his 'passion' doesn't quite add up. Acting like that doesn't make you passionate, it makes you a twát.
As I say, he's improved the mental side of his game as he's become more reliable/efficient over the course of a season and in big games. That takes a mentality that he didn't have before, especially as he was second fiddle to Ronaldo.
However, he's lost technical and physical attributes.
This is the real kicker. Because the things he's improved at are things that come naturally with age. It's a shame he lost the other parts of his game that made him so good. He'd be the complete striker if he still had them.

I disagree with that Darren. I believe he's got better technically but lost a lot mentally.
Far enough. You're wrong, but you're entitled to that opinion.
Technically he's regressed massively. It is odd, usually these skills improve with age and experience but his touch and short passing game is unbelievably bad. Maybe it was always this bad but I can't remember it being so. For a player who loves playing as a No.10 in the tight space between midfield and attack these are 2 technical skills you would think he would be improving on.
Why is patriotism stupid?

Yeah, I don't think patriotism is a stupid idea, the world has changed significantly over the years so it probably just seems slightly more out of touch with so much multiculturalism. Nothing wrong with being proud of your roots and country.

Maybe he has lost a lot mentally and isn't as fussed about playing as well and winning at all costs. Maybe he isn't fussed about getting his passes right or using the fear of getting it wrong to make sure he gets it right.
At the euros, Rooney annoyed me with his selfishness/laziness at not marking pirlo vs Italy. He always seemed to be a 'team player', has he become less so? Welbeck would have been much more useful
