Remember, with Rooney, he is one of the most famous faces in football, whether people like him or not

If the presss can find a way of putting a picture of him in their papers, particularly negatively, they will jump at it.

Of late, we have had

The club have to run transfers past Rooney
Rooney has insisted he has the captaincy
Rooney is now worried because Van Gaal might not pick him
Rooney has tried to talk the club out of apointing Van Gaal because he doesn't want to put in the work.
We have also had the 300k a week contract sillyness (I actually wrote on here in the first half of the season when Rooney was on fire that the press had nothing negative to write so ecpect a 'Rooney holds United to ransom' story in the not too distant future. Certain sources actually stated there was no increase at all in terms of his basic. (That aint that good a story is it)

Now we have the Van Gaal/RVP thing and the papers are all over it because it involves Rooney again and idiots like the OP fall for it everytime

This is a story which will run for a bit yet and Rooney being Rooney, will just ignore it and concentrate on the WC

That's why I defend Rooney and give chit to OP's like this one.

Why would we want to sell Rooney. Apart from De gea he our best player this season. One thing you can't say about Rooney is that he doesn't put in a shift. Rvp didn't cover himself in glory this year. Looked like he did nothing but sulk all season. Night not have liked moyes but if meant to be a pro and on good wages to do a job for Utd. He should be the one that gets moved on. Wonder how far down the table we would be if Rooney hadn't played all season.

I don't believe the RVP stories are true

I think it has only been his injury personally. Even when playing, I think it has been affecting him psycologically to a degree (Remember it was even strapped up?)

I'm sure RVP just wants to be back fit and playing well for United again. That can only be good for us surely

Be attached to Rooney all you want. The day a manager comes in and decides solely based on talent, he will be gone. Leader? A player who has not improved the last 4 years is 28 in his prime? Do you all believe that?

If LVG got rid of Rooney, it would be the greatest thing any manager has done for us. Moyes has done the very worst having us looking forward to 33 year old rooney trying to break our goalscoring records with idiotic people using that as justification for him to keep playing.

Let's just hope LVG gets rid of him. If not, the next manager because that is the greatest burden we bear at this moment.

Rooney was in his prime in 2006,7 and 8 IMO he's not as good as he was back then, he's still terrific but he's not god

I'm talking about his general play, whatever anyone might say about him, at times he fecks our play up because he just will not play the role he needs to as a striker, he keeps coming deep, yes our midfield is poor but Rooney would be coming back into his own half if we had Vidal and Kroos in midfield, because it's just in his nature to do so, if both are 100% fit RVP is a better no9 than Rooney for me

And he insists on playing spectacular passes rather than the more sensible option, he does it all the time and it infuriates me, at least 4 times vs Everton he had easy passes inside to Nani, Mata or Kagawa, but he chose the Hollywood ball out to Smalling who then had no option to cross the ball to

Depends on how that nager views what talent is. If it like you then I have no doubt Rooney will be gone.

If he has the slightest clue about football, and what talent is, then Rooney will not be gone.

Rooney has mostly come deep from the 10 position, which you would expect

The season before RVP joined, he scored 34 from the 10 position, and he tracked back for the team then too

He doesn't just run around alot like people claim, he's dragging players all over the place too creating space for other players

Welbeck does it alot to, just not as well as Rooney does it.

I agree that when playing at 9, he needs to be more disciplined like in 2010 when he scored 34 from the 9 position (The season everyone started calling him a tap in merchant and what happened to the Rooney who used to score the scorchers from outside the box. My answer at the time was because he was playing much further forward that season. (He even mentioned how he had worked on his heading all the previous Summer to help him score more goals - it worked)

It isn't even close

If anyone thinks getting rid of Rooney is greater that the achievements of Sir Alex and Sir Matt, then the anti-rooney bias is utterly astounding

I agree Macca I like Rooney a lot, think he's a brilliant player but he does create problems for us IMO, a bit like Carrick, brilliant player but we'd be better off with a different option in there

He scores goals

If there is any finger pointing to be done at players from this season, from the new manager coming in, then Rooney would be bottom of the list

There are FAR bigger problems than Rooney to fix at United mate for me

I know there are, doesn't mean he doesn't give us certain headaches because he does, defence and midfield are our most pressing concerns, but for example IF we sold Rooney and got Marco Reus all speculative of course I wouldn't be crying into my morning bowl of weetabix( well tesco wheat biscuits) I'm a cheapskate

I agree that these passes Rooney keeps doing are infuriating.

What I think Rooney is trying to do here is what the midfield should be doing in the first place, and that is getting the ball forwards quicker.

if you watch him, once he makes these passes out to Valencia, he is already on the move into the box for the end product that never comes.

Hopefully the midfield will be addressed by the new manager so that Rooney doesn't have to keep dropping back.

I can't believe what I read sometimes regarding Rooney.
He has been a fantastic player for United.
There will always be people who have decided whatever he does it's not good enough or overrated.
One of the most unselfish forward players you will ever see. A true team player, one who is sometimes a victim of his versatility and yes of his own eagerness, enthusiasm, foolishness whatever you may want to call it.
He has had two contract renewals as a result of speculation linking him with a transfer. The latest one I don't really blame him. SAF didn't need to say what he said at that time. Rooney knew Maureen wanted him but kept quiet during the summer and let the speculation mount. At the end of the day he stayed at the club and we don't know exactly what his salary is.
Anyhow he has been our best player this season along with DDG.
I do agree that he presents a bit of a problem for the team but that's up to a strong manager to play him where he thinks best and then for Rooney to accept that and be disciplined.

Ive been saying that all season

It is why at the moment I much prefer Rooney to Mata at 10

When we have a much stronger midfield then there are of course arguments for Mata there because he can appear more pleasing on the eye, but Rooney is always going to get you more goals from there. It's just what he does.

At United, a manager should have headaches like this to work with. Top class talent vying for the same spot is a good thing

Having Kagawa Mata Rooney and RVP Welbeck and Chich to chose from is a problem any manager would want
