So they're doing everyone a favour. Who knew?

It doesnt sit right with me at all and I'mnot sure it'sa good idea long term as I reckon watching us play Barca EVERY season will take the fun out of playing Barca if that makes sense. I'll still watch it though.

No wonder sky are phissed. The PL will effectively be about who finishes first and relegation. The money will die in the PL.

I thought they may have given a statement saying they were pulling back a bit because the reaction but that sounds like this is happening and they don't give a fvck.

It is unclear when it would begin, but we would be banned from playing in the CL next season.

Renders top 4 chase meaningless?

'Our 12 founder clubs represent billions of fans'

Really?

Hopefully in the coming days these fans will let the greedy billionaire owners what side of the fence they are on, as football civil war breaks out.

You can shove your footballing version of the NFL up your arsenal's.

Beating Leeds is no longer important it seems

It'll probably be brilliant you know. High quality football every week, no lock blocks, the best players in the best stadiums.

I still dont want it though I dont think.

Not many people will watch the CL with games like Spartak Moskou vs Lyon

Everton will have now a chance to play in the CL.

Have to wonder how long this plan has been in the making. No doubt they told Spurs to get their stadium built in time for announcing the plans.

Yeah that crossed my mind because they werent invited to the last talks. They've been planning this for years.

You wouldn't play them every season, unless they were in your half of the draw every year though

Honestly there is some bed wetting going on over this tbh.

Of course we will still care about winning our domestic league each year, this is just a CL replacement, with minimum of 18 matches a season.

Will it have the same excitement? Who knows, I certainly hope so, but it's no less setting up a closed shop for the rich clubs than the PL/CL were, or the TV rights allocations of most European leagues are.

UEFA and FIFA are about as corrupt as they come, and you can see it now as the scramble to protect their income from these horrible horrible clubs that want to exploit their own franchises.

Hopefully the idea will evolve to see the bottom two from each league booted yearly, with the top 7th placed teams having a playoff.

Then let in the CL quarter finalists, and EL winners.

Also does anyone think that City's reluctance and PSG refusing to join were because it's financial sustainability restrictions would fack them and their owners pumping money in unsustainably?!

So basically the clubs want all the money for themselves without the need to give huge chunks to UEFA?

I’ve no problem with that, the issue is the freezing out of the other clubs. It seems the French and German clubs have refused to join of their own accord, but what about the other countries? The likes of the Dutch and Portuguese teams certainly bring plenty to the table competition wise and some clubs from other countries no doubt relied on CL income to survive. Obviously this is the massive downside to it all.

This was always going to happen though. The idea has been muted for decades, way before foreign ownership became the norm....

I read their hesitation was around broadcasting rights.

City owners own bein sports, and the broadcasting rights have gone to a rival.
