Likewise Mellor, I'm expecting Isak to stay too. Newcastle are completely unserious about getting any replacements in, I think they are deliberately delaying things now with the preference of the player staying and re-integrating eventually.
No Jackson in the Chelsea squad
[🟢] NEW: Jeremie Frimpong is in a race against time to be passed fit for Liverpool’s trip to Monday after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.

Newcastle keeping Isak would be silly as they'll have an unhappy player who is unlikely to even play for another month or so due to not taking part in pre-season.
But do agree it all comes down to their failure to get anyone in. Makes you wonder why they went after someone like Jacob Ramsey for £40m when they could have put that money towards Wissa and already had him bedded in by now.

Absolute shambles!
Newcastle really needed to cut their losses, but chose to be stubborn and it will backfire massively, unless they change couse over the next 10 days.

I think we make one last bid next week
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree, do think we'll bid. But for Newcastle to turn now they will look stupid. Unless they do pull 2 strikers out the hat.
Might be good to have a less offensive right back for this game with Gomez
True, reverting to a back 3 when Kerkez is inevitably caught out of position.
Im also worried about what we do next if Isak doesnt pan out. I know we have previously held our nerve for example with Van Dijk but that was an emerging team who hadnt yet become what they eventually did.
This is different. The league is very much there to be won and we will be leaving ourselves fairly short if we dont look elsewhere. Its a massive gamble to take for 5 months when things might not even change then anyway.
Well we're also interesting in signing a winger it seems so I expect to see someone else come in, regardless of what happens with Isak. And then hopefully Guehi too
Could be an exciting deadline day for once
I don’t get the Isak pessimism. Unless it’s just to say ‘I never believed it’ in the event it doesn’t happen.
I genuinely struggle to think of a parallel where the player has been so adamant about a move, the buying club being willing to break the transfer record to make it happen, but it doesn’t.
On a thread a few days ago a poster mentioned Rooney but he was already at a top club and there was never the destination focus. Newcastle aren’t challenging for the big trophies, we are.
The only reason it doesn’t happen imo is the owners just want to feck Isak over. They’re rich but they’re not stupid. That harms Newcastle. They’ll line up signings and sell him.

Well ive said I always thought it would happen but as times gone on, newcastles stance has never budged. We're now at a stage where Im not even sure whos left for them to go for. Jacksons being linked with villa now.
I just think theyll believe if they stay strong he'll end up playing again. You say you cant think of other situations where a player doesnt go in this situation. I cant think of a situation where a club has refused to sell and the player hasnt eventually gave in and reintegrated. Isak would have to go on strike until january at which point yeah theyd have to sell.
They've been trying to line up signings all transfer window though
There's always a flurry of movement towards the end of a summer window.
You know what...I think I've been exposed to too much Fred
The deal is done...it's all just optics at the moment

Newcastle are nowhere near the owners top priority at the moment. Their efforts are focused on the Saudi League and the World Cup. It’s not inconceivable that they’re using us to show everyone that they’re not to be messed and will not bend over for anyone. I don’t think how it affects Newcastle is at the top of their concerns.
This isn’t just my own thoughts, there was a piece on this (maybe the Athletic??) a few weeks ago, highlighting how Newcastle are in an awkward position because of their owners priorities, and how it’s unusual for a PL team not to be the top priority.

I’m still leaning towards it happening, and I said earlier in the week how quiet it had gone, and maybe that meant things were happening behind the scenes.
Remember right at the start of the summer? Journo’s saying we were interested in Isak, but it would be an extremely difficult deal to make happen.
They were certainly bang on the money with that one….
