TBH, nigel could do nothing about hulse and commons leaving
______________

He could have offered him a contract earlier. He may still have gone but not for 300k

Bush, Commons' injury record up to last season would have made any manager think twice about offering another contract earlier.

This article is mad!

Bywater/Leacock/Pearson - If they are in no way to figure for Nigel (although Pearson has been given a squad number) then their supposed high-wages should be stricken off the books and them paid off. These are players that are grasping on from our darkest days in a long time. I have liked the way all three play in the past, but of late, nothing but garbage - though Pearson is probably my preferred of the three.

As for Commons and Hulse, how do we know that Nigel didn't attempt to offer them both contracts? For all any of us know, he wanted them but the board wanted to cash in - a good decision in my mind - and saw it through.

To close, Mostyn, your tedious remonstrations are unbearable. Either get behind the team or flump off. What exactly has Nigel done that you hate so much? As far as I can see, yes, a lot of people will call our 100% record fluke; so be it. But it's also the first time that Nigel (and Derby County as a whole) has had an entire squad built as requested. The past few squads have been a mix of decrepits, deadwood and not much else.

I don't see it any other way. Nigel has built a squad that appears to have no cliques (when was the last time an entire Derby squad all celebrated every goal?) that finally wants to play for the Ram on their chests. It's no coincedence that Southampton and Brighton have done so well. Their squads have been brought together as their managers wanted and as a result play as a team, which in my opinion is far more preferable than a team of 3 or 4 pre-Madonnas (Commons, Savage, Leacock...), filling the gaps with other unsettled players.

I think we've got a good season ahead of us; possibly great!

UTR!

TBR

Absolutely spot on, pal. 100% agree.

posted on 24/8/11

He most certainly is allowed to voice his opinion. As am I. But what exactly at this moment in time is there for him to get so wound-up about?

We're technically playing the best football we've played in 100+ years so enjoy it. I certainly am. Getting right up in grills of all the Forest fans I know.

It just seems that he claws on to any shred of negativity, and no matter how tenuous, can make Nigel seem like the Führer!

TBR this is a discussion board and NC has dropped some clangers! Do you agree on that? This squad is short on 2-3 positions, do you agree on that?
NC has given Bywater, Pearson and Leacock extended contracts, agree???
Bywater, Pearson and Leacock as many are suggesting are keeping us from buying players, agree???

Do you see how these are all linked and worth of disscussion????

Nigel is not on the board of Directors, so that puts to bed most of those comments. Ultimately, nothing is his decision no matter how much you want to attach the blame to him! Diddums

I don't agree we need players in 2 or even 3 positions. I think we need one more midfielder, and I've said numerous times who I'd like that to be (Michael Tonge or Danny Pugh).

We now have plenty of defenders (I can't wait until Riggott and Barker are fit, and I can definitely see us signing Kilbane in January ) and forwards, and a decent mix of midfielders, but that one old head is in my mind lacking - but it doesn't show.

And as for our best football in 100+ years, re-read the original comment. You'll see I used the word "technically".

posted on 24/8/11

Utter tosh!! The manager decides if new contracts are given and if they are surplus to requirements

We need a striker for sure as we have to many similiar players, support strikers with nobody to hold the ball up. We are desperate for an experienced midfielder and cover for both full backs. We will get found out over a season.

If we dont strengthen I dont expect us in the top ten at the end of the season and that would be a waste of the good start we've had

posted on 24/8/11

Well, you and Mostyn are the only ones who see it - as far as I can tell...

After Super Start - Clough Needs Support Not Broken Promises!
Wed 24th Aug 2011 15:01 by Daniel J Sewart
With the transfer window set to close next week - fans are asking is if the Rams will add to their playing stocks? Nigel will be asking the same question as despite a great start to the season - is still forced to play the penniless beggar!

News today once again links the club with Martyn Waghorn and the continuing rumours regarding former Derby players Steve Howard and Matt Oakley. But it is no stretch to believe nothing at all will happen and if so - we will be justified to ask what has happened to the promises made pre-season?

It seems that unless Nigel can move on some high wage earners, once again the manager will be forced to settle for loan signings to fill important gaps in his squad.

Tom Glick promised a ‘Director of Football’ figure to be brought into the club to help Nigel in the transfer market; he promised significant funds to be made available to sign players and he promised that fans would be excited by the ‘experienced names’ that would be brought in.

Instead, we have signed out of contract players, players bought on what could be considered as minor fees in today’s market and only one really significant fee in Jason Shackell.

At the same time, the club has off-loaded a couple of players and made a good profit from the sale of Luke Varney.

Nigel Clough was positive and looking forward to adding genuine talent at the beginning of the transfer period - but once again seems to be forced to tow the company line in that we must move players out to bring players in.

With all respect to Howard and Oakley, are signings of that type the best we can do to build our squad? Are they the type of signings Nigel would have been targeting when the club rolled out its ‘money back guarantee’?

The time is fast approaching, if it has not already arrived, for us to ask questions of what was promised against what is being delivered. When the window closes shut then that time will have come.

The club has constantly trumpeted their ‘nine new signings’ over the off-season - but really only a couple come even close to the criteria of player that Glick was promising when urging fans to renew their season tickets.

With no disrespect to the players involved, budget buys, out-of-favour players from other clubs and unproven SPL players did not fulfil the criteria set by Tom Glick prior to the 2011/12 season. Besides the fact the team has started like a bull at a gate, the fact is the promises made - remain undelivered to Clough and the fans.

Nigel Clough has worked wonders again this season against the odds, with injury once again taking its toll on the team. Despite the annual club hiccup, Nigel and his team must be applauded as they have dug deep and produced three gutsy league wins.

The thing that we must be mindful of is that last season - although not gathering the same amount of points - started promisingly but fell away mainly because the club sold two of its most important assets.

This sensational start has bought those at the top of the DCFC tree some time - but if results slip, Mr. Glick had better be prepared for backlash on a scale that will make last season’s small rumblings pale in comparison.

Nigel cannont keep setting up the blocks only to not be given the support to finish building - if they are not going to give him the support financially and in administration as promised - are most of us happy to ignore that if because we are winning?

Surely Nigel deserves better.... surely we deserve better. If this start slips through our fingers, I for one wont be blaming Nigel.

If we have to move players on then surely it is likely that a an experienced ‘Director of Football’ with contacts in football would, at the very least, be able to find a loan home for the likes of Bywater, Leacock, Pearson and Martin to assist with the wage bill.

Has no one been appointed because they may actually expect to be given a budget to work with?

Has no one been appointed because they would not just want to dabble in the loan market and instead sign some genuine Championship performers to boost a squad that the manager happily admits, has serious holes that desperately need filling?

Tom Glick told us all he had Nigel’s shopping list and they would be working hard to bring in these players. Why do these signings, that the manager tells the media he needs, seem so hard to deliver, especially when it was promised they would happen, and we were all privy to that promise?

Nigel Clough takes the brunt of the fans anger and if it goes wrong again this season that will happen again - and it will be likely to cost him his job.

This problem needs addressing now and addressing fast before a good start to the season may be wasted and the Rams' lack of depth can be exploited by opponents, as players tire and (heaven forbid) we pick up even more injuries.

Nigel is not perfect but he has done all we can ask of him by delivering four wins from four starts. Even the most optimistic fan would have struggled to honestly predict that!

It is now time for his bosses to deliver on their promises and make sure they give their employee – who constantly takes one for the team (and quite often two or three) – some real help in getting the cattle on the pitch that he requires.

Rams fans are loyal and love their team - but they are not stupid. The time is coming where supporters may have to remind those who hold the purse-strings of that fact!

'Mr. Everywhere' Tom Glick has been very quiet by his standards of late – it makes you start to wonder if something is up behind the scenes… time will tell.

Every club in this league would fall over themselves for the perfect start that Nigel has delivered to DCFC. If building on a solid foundation does not make sense to the club - then you have to ask - how seriously they want the club to climb the league table?

just to say, I have pasted this article from fanzone. They are saying exactly the same as me and some of the members on 606, back the manager with this great start that we have had! To those members who think we don't need players like Waghorne or experienced mid field player, you're not the manager Nigel Clough is, and every time after a match Colin Gibson asks him the same question, "do you need more personnel at DCFC ie striker, mid field player," Nigel Clough says yes every time ! Do any of you actually listen to our manager after a match, he states categorically that yes he does need these players! Lastly just to say, I have been e.mailing Tom Glick and radio Derby asking the question, where are the mid field player and experienced striker thats been promised, and I never get a reply from either of them. Tom Glick has disappeared from the face of the earth, no one can find him any where!

Wassa, whoever wrote that is an idiot! We lost about £1m on Varney and didnt make a profit at all! I also dont think Clough has faced the brunt of anything! He got away with losing against Crawley and Forest (x2) and many other shocking results. I'd like us to bring in a Robbie Van Der Laan, but cannot see anyone like that available. I would also say that some fans are quite greedy. Many fans said they'd be happy with a couple of million quid being spent on players, now that's happened, they're not and they want more spent.

Mostyn how many times have I got to say to you, it's nothing to do with the fans it's down to the manager, if he wants players that he thinks will improve the squad then he should get these players, it's not going to break the bank. Simples! Like I've said do you want me to show you the links where Glick has said if Nigel wants these players he can have them! Thats after we had signed the 9 players we got. I asked you a question yesterday, did you get a come back from Tom Glick after you e.mailed him?? If so can you text me and let me know what he said!

posted on 24/8/11

wassa, you'd have to be naive if you took everything said by Glick as gospel. Of course there is a limit to what Nigel Clough can have, he certainly cant have Lionel Messi, but sure as hell would want him!

As for that question you asked me, why did you ask it, I posted in the article that I hadnt received a response, didnt you read it all?

posted on 24/8/11

I am in no way naive Mostyn, I am as realistic as the next person. I have always said I don't trust Tom Glick since the day he came. Of cause we would like players like Messi, who wouldn't? But we can have the decent players that are out there, I know there is a limit to what Nigel can spend but we can get players in to the budget we can afford!!
Yes I did read the comment you put, but that was yesterday, today is another day, so was just asking again.
