When will our luck run out?

VC

I'm sure we will see more improvements in the future but right now at this very moment these supposed improvements haven't been anything to write home about. I would imagine any good manager would have made these improvements if not more by now.

There are just as many question marks still unanswered than there are improvements. Last season was a complete and utter mess, this season was always going to see improvements.

So far I would give LVG 5.5/10. That has nothing to do with what could happen in the future, but purely on what I have seen and heard from him so far.

Results wise we are underachieving. Performance wise we are improving. If you can't see it, maybe you don't want to?
-------------------------------------------------

Read the beginning of the OP again. I agreed in some ways we were improving. But to add to that, without the luck we've enjoyed we may well have lost 2 out of the 3 games and only DDG stopped us from dropping points against Everton.

The way people are going on is that we've played well in those 3 games without remembering how lucky we've been in all 3.

It's a bit of both. Improving in some ways but also massively lucky at times.

Carricks wasn't a foul at all, Fellaini was debatable and Rojo's was the only absolute stone Waller, I don't care what SkySports show, they can get it wrong aswell

Okay, please tell us why that statement is false.

.........

I never said it was false, I said it was crap.

This is why it is crap. You have picked up the things that could have happened in City's favour.

So, I will play your childish game and pick just one that could have happened in our favour and changed the whole course of the game.

The ref might not have booked Smalling for his first yellow offence.

So, that's your whole thread countered in one easy swoop and put to bed.

Ji, and LVG hasn't done well enough so far either.

Difference is that there's a far smaller sample time in LVG's case to compare to a full season under Moyes.

LVG also has the credentials to manage top clubs and is given leeway as a result of that.

Moyes never did and likely never will.

Swings and roundabouts.

We had some poor decisions go against us in the first few games.

De Gea didn't make any miraculous saves against City and Chelsea.

We have been a bit fortunate with some of the refereeing in the last few games, granted.

But that doesn't mean that the same will happen in the coming games because playing City and Chelsea are a different kettle of fish to the games we have coming up.

I do agree with you we haven't been as good as some are making out.

That horrific injury list, further compounded by supsensions for three red cards, has contributed to our indifferent form.

I think because of this and the shape of the squad going into the season, and after the window, LVG is trying to juggle between imposing his ideology on the team and being pragmatic in trying to get results - this is why there's no clear vision about how we'll set up this season (look at all the different formations we've played) and given we've got many different styles of players in the side it's leading to some disjointed performances in terms of style of play.

That's my reasoning behind it. But whether people want to use it as an excuse or not we've still underachieved this season.

Exactly.

Rob dismissing that horrific injury list but then defending Moyes tooth and nail because RVP was out.

He's a failure and a coward. He held back everton for years and ever since he left they've progressed much better under a manager that knows what he's doing.

Then he came to United and ruined the club, making us a laughing stock by telling experienced defenders to defend like Phil facking Jagielka, ban the players from eating chips and telling the squad to pass 300 times in one game and 200 in another. What does this even mean?

Also he's deluded, multiple interviews since his sacking and he's crying about not being given a chance even though he delivered the worst season ever witnessed in decades. He doesn't blame himself at all for making multiple mistakes, just buries his head in the sand. And he gets a £5m compensation package for it. Fùck him.

If you genuinely think Smalling getting booked for the most blatant of booking offences is the same thing as United being lucky with 3 blatant penalty shouts then you really should become a rugby fan. Cricket too as football isn't your thing.

Do you think where we are now is LVG's finished article? The improvements are just a start.
------------------------
Why do you always leave off the part of my comment that basically sums up the question you ask me.

I've said that with a bit of luck with injuries and a bit more confidence, he can bring about the kind of improvements that we all hope LvG can bring.

There are zero guarantees of this though, unfortunately. You seem to think it is a dead cert. Barcelona probably did when they employed him a 2nd time.

Btw Van Gaal should be sacked if we finish outside the top 4, I'm no lover of all things Van Gaal, he's made some big errors so far, but the performances have improved and I'll be judging him in May, just like I said with Moyes last season, give him the season and then judge

seriously mate, if you EVER get a job at a top newspaper being paid to talk about football send me your bank details and i'll transfer £10,000 into your account.

You are THAT clueless.

Whoever defends Moyes and is within the United fanbase deserve to get shot out of a cannon. I don't get what the man has done to deserve such staunch defending. Ffs he's the first manager to pull out a PowerPoint presentation in the game to explain set plays.

Let's not denigrate the job Moyes did at Everton he did well there, it wasn't an exceptional job but it was a very good job, Moyes is a good manager and a decent bloke but he wasn't good enough for United and shouldn't have even been considered for the job

You do realise that your whole argument is based on Smalling being supposedly unlucky with that booking. If you can't see that then you really are a mug.

I think one of the big differences between this season and last season, despite our poor form, is the body language of the players.

They seem a lot more up for the fight and get the impression there's a lot more belief in LVG than there was in Moyes.

Everton finished in a good position last season. Played quality football, MARTINEZ gave Barkley his chance to shine, the Everton players admitted to enjoying Martinez's training methods more than Moyes. That's progression. Something to be optimistic about. Ask any Everton fan and they'll tell you what I said, they knew Moyes was past his sell by date.

This article isn't even about Moyes! I wish I hadn't put his name in the OP.

It's about how lucky we've been in the past few games. It's a true statement. That for me takes some of the gloss off some of the improvements we've made.

posted on 3/11/14

If Moyes was such a saint why is he still out of a job? Why has there been no clubs rushing for his signature? There's been feck all in the media about him. Because he isn't rated.

Mex

A lot of people have slated the job he did at Everton since failing at United and Martinez coming in.

Even Everton fans.

I think he took them as far as he could, personally, and didn't perform the miracles some make out, but for ten years he transformed their fortunes and consistently had them in and around where they should be.
