There is nothing wrong with changing opinions. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

However your principles should remain consistent. That is all I have asked for.

I have always maintained, let us see how the season pans out and then we make a judgement. The guy had us in the top 4 for most of the season which was the target.

I did not understand why people were calling for his head. If he had performed as horribly as Moyes did last season, I would have been first in line knocking him.

By principles I'm guessing you mean if 1 manager should get time then they all should. Obviously that's your viewpoint but might not be the same for others. For some, LVGs record raises expectation when compared with Moyes.

I think people were calling for his head because they had higher expectations of the squad and manager, for example, We cold be much closer to Chelsea had we set up like we do now, 3 months ago.

But if your saying you can't stop won't the "I told you So's" then hey ho, go for it MuD lol.

"There is nothing wrong with changing opinions."

There is when those who wanted LVG out still fail to admit he is doing a good job, but was "lucky" to fall upon this in-form selection.

Nothing to do with his tactics, mentality or training methods coming to fruition of course, as the clever sods on this board predicted

It is equally daft not to even entertain the notion that we would be in a different place with those key injuries and suspensions.

LvG has done well, of late, but question marks remain, notably what he will do on RvP's return. Laughably early for "I told you so" comments. Especially the "I knew it would happen" stuff.

busby, I'm sure LVG is doing a good job, but at the same time, I doubt he would have dropped shaw, young, di Maria and RVP which is what it took for us to arrive at the current side we are seeing bud.

also believe the marked improvement in recent weeks aren't purely down to a master plan set out by LVG, but instead a combination of good coaching finally paying off, having a very talented pool of players, and injury and suspension forcing LVG's hand.

========================================

This.

Even the harshest critic of LVG admits he is a top manager and his CV is impressive. However, i - along with a few - were not fans of his style/output for the majority of the season and with good reason.

Did i want him to fail? Absolutely not. I just felt that he wasn't making his life easier!

Don't be daft. This is all Giggsy's work.

Which goes back to the question. What was the target for the season?

Top 4

So the raised expectation argument is not a viable one

Possibly, but that's the point, it's extremely naive to believe that the change of 2/3 personnel can cause such a seismic shift in form.

It's about much more than that.

posted on 7/4/15

Of course it's a viable one. How can you tell else what the expect from unitd Mud?

And before you say the clubs aim was top 4, I think you would find that would be the minimum expectation from the club.

It's no good arguing for most of the season we are in transition, top 4 is our level this season then taking the plaudits because we currently sit 3rd and could achieve second come the end of the season.

What caused if if not a personnel change then busby? What magic did LVG sprinkle on their cornflakes that made them improve so significantly just as those came in to the side?

Tbh its not even been a "changing of opinions"... More like a bi-polar mood swing

Its only a couple of weeks since some people were screaming for him to be sacked

Also.... There appear to be a helluva lot more "please stop with the i told you so" articles than there are actual "i told you so" articles

Egos have been dented... Get over it

I'm fairly certain if rvp gets reinstated when fit, there'll be no shortage of daily "i told you so" from yourself and others should things go pear shaped

Ours as in mine and yours, the collective ja606 group, the clubs?

Personally, we have the 3rd best squad in the league so I'd expect top 3 and a cup win.

It's not though, is it?

Many of us on here discussed improvements in our game since Christmas, it's just that a lot of people don't see past the result.

We have kept possession very well since that period and have only just found the nack for scoring goals. Our general play isn't all that different, the end product is.

Posession is all well and good but The goals and significant improvement in performance came from herrera mata and Rooney at CF bud.

It contributed, would be silly to suggest otherwise, but without the shift in playing style since August we'd not be seeing this football.

Pretty simple really.

posted on 7/4/15

Yes Busby, so the system + the players = the current form. So had LVG picked these players sooner we'd have had this football sooner and be closer to Chelsea.

As is the while point of this thread, nobody was wrong. The LVG supporters had faith it would work out, others thought he should have sussed it sooner.

MUD,The club's minimum requirment would be top 3 to avoid a mid july qualifier which wouldnt credit up ore season tours and such, although I'm sure they would prefer better

---------------
Where are all these in depth articles?

Please don't just rattle on about possession, City had 74% possession, last night, it is just another stat.

Everyone and their dog could see possession was up, that was not the clear sign of improvement that people seem to be patting themselves on the back for "identifying". We all saw it, possession stats are shown throughout the match and in all the reports.

It was as good as meaningless until we started coupling it with a high line, high pressing game that co-coincided with rooney's first game up top, against Newcastle. All of a sudden, we had possession higher up the pitch and began making some chances.

That game and the instruction to play higher up the pitch was the breakthrough.

The club's requirement was to get back in the CL. So, why pray tell would you sack a manager who had the club in the position it needed to be in to get back in the CL?

posted on 7/4/15

I assume all these folk who could see clear signs of improvement in our games since Christmas think that Rooney in CM is something that should be repeated? Or RVP and Falcao up top? Carrick in defence as a 3-5-2? Keeping possession at all costs? Hoofing the ball to Fellaini? Di Maria as striker?

All things that have happened in and after Christmas. Surely LvG was on the right track with these ideas, as they were clearly showing improvements.....

posted on 7/4/15

Because MUD up until a few weeks ago finishing in a top 4 spot looked a long way off and people expected more of LVG and the squad. Since Rooney went up top and Herrera and mata were put in we have improved significantly hence many now backing lvg to finish top 4. Don't see many calling for him to be sacked now.
