Yeah, I get what you're tryna say. All I'm saying is that this means Rob Reiner wanted Ford and Cruise, not the studio wanted Ford and Cruise. The studio is a separate person/entity, obviously.
I am part owner and founder of an import/export business. If I want to work with supplier X but the business ends up working with supplier Y then can it be said that the business ideal supplier was company X? Doesn't it matter what my partners think?
Furthermore the script and project belonged to Darabont I think and the studio never indicated any preference for any particular actors as far as we know. You just mentioned there was 4 other owners as well. I bet they'd have had different actors in mind so which of them speaks for the studio more than the others? Each owner would have different views but surely the decision they ultimately make together becomes the preference of the studio, no?
