To the overwhelming majority of Muslims, IS are perfectly un-Islamic.
I would probably listen that clear consensus over *any* other particular definition.

For someone to be classed as Islamic, they must practise the teachings of Mohammed in the correct way.
..............
That is what these people think they are doing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lets see what Muhammad (pbhu) has to say about killing Christians....
"This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them.
Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them.
No compulsion is to be on them.
Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.
No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses.
Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.
No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight.
The Muslims are to fight for them.
If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.
Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants.
No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world)."
Please explain to everybody here how Daesh could have killed scores of Christians in Iraq without purposefully overlooking how they were told to treat Christians as Muslims.
After that you can tell us if the Democratic Republic of North Korea is democratic.
"Stop, O people, that I may give you ten rules for your guidance in the battlefield. Do not commit treachery or deviate from the right path. You must not mutilate dead bodies. Neither kill a child, nor a woman, nor an aged man. Bring no harm to the trees, nor burn them with fire, especially those which are fruitful. Slay not any of the enemy's flock, save for your food. You are likely to pass by people who have devoted their lives to monastic services; leave them alone."
Can anybody explain how this can mean kill indiscriminately.

That is undeniable. And I think it is likely a very strong proportion of the indoctrinated nutters actually believe they are acting in the name of Islam. Which is ridiculous.
There wasn't much particularly Christian about the crusades either though to be fair.
I think you're arguing at cross purposes a bit.

Melton I don't know if you have read all of the comments but the argument from VC which LQ agreed with is that they are Islamic because it says so in the name.
They seem to have gone braindead when asked to elaborate on why the Democratic Republic of North Korea isn't democratic.
Basically, as religion is about as real as a movie, this is ISIS in a nutshell...
Moderate Muslims are like 1976 Carrie. ISIS are like the recent remake with Hitgirl. Both are sourced by the Stephen King book (Stephen King is Allah?)
Nearly everyone thinks the 1976 film is the true Carrie. Some mentalists prefer the one with Chloe Moretz.
Robb
If ever I have seen a Hafi type thread killer, that would be it.
Top stuff.
Yes I'm the brain dead one because I see Islamic state subjugating and murdering calling themselves what exactly?
Strike a light have you heard yourself?
Attack me all you want but it's not me using a religion to kill maim and basically murder for it.
Yes I'm the bad guy in all this!

Try not to dodge the question like VC.
It's a different meaning and context to what you are thinking democratic is.
In terms of the wider debate, I agree there is nothing particularly Islamic about the actions of Daesh. However, there is in the eyes of those that are part of it. It is a distortion of the religion as much as the crusades were on the Christians at the time (with guarantees of all sins being repented for them).
That's why I think it's cross purposes. You are saying it isn't Islamic and are correct. Those within Daesh (well, a big chunk of them) believe it is and use that distortion as part of the justification.
Removal of that justification is incredibly powerful as it removes a lot of the cause. To do it is nigh on impossible, but needs everyone involved to try.

No, only if you are looking at the ones that involve us, which is naturally what the media will do.

It's a side issue that you aren't really apart of but there isn't anything remotely democratic about NK. Regardless LQ thinks they are communist even though the word democratic exists in it's name so it doesn't matter what the reality is it's the logic being used in LQ's and VC brains.
Melton is not possible that they are just lying to gather gullible recruits?
It's a fact that the people at the top are secularists.
The people at the top of all religions are probably secularists who have a big hard on for power trips
"Melton is not possible that they are just lying to gather gullible recruits?"
Oh absolutely, I'm sure a few of them realise themselves, much like I'm sure the pope at the time of the crusades realised the shallowness of his words too.
My point was more that with those that are easily influenced and most at risk, those are the ones we have to work with to ensure they realise the differences and the distortion.
"It's a side issue that you aren't really apart of but there isn't anything remotely democratic about NK"
Just on that, you are right, but that isn't what it means. They are called that because the soviets used the term to describe states they didn't believe we're fully socialist. It's not that they are democratic, more that at the time they had not fully embedded the whole socialist principles like the republic.

Thats a fair point melton and something I didn't know but it still stands that in this debate about names meaning exactly what you are, NK still isn't what LQ and VC would determine as democratic..... hence the silence.
