Are you all aware that Henry has left the club? Just seen it on the BBC.

I find it incredible that Wenger is still in the job to be honest.

Would have been a good year to bin Wenger this year, whilst we are still settling with a new manager and another influx of new players to try and gel, likewise for City and Chelsea (and Liverpool for that matter).

If he leaves in a year or 2, we may be more settled and Mourinho will fully have his own team in his shape, so will City and Pep, and Klopp.

If you could get a top CF this window then you have the continuity to really challenge and pip us all to the league, but then when you do come to change and go through the transition, you'll be on your own (unless Jose goes off on one and is sacked again )

How many actual world-beaters come through our academy though?

Stop shifting the goal posts. How many 'actual world-beaters' have come through any academy?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Lol. What?
Almost all of them, I presume. Except late starters like Vardy, if you count him.

What he means is how many world beaters come through and star at the same club?
Most of the best players in the world came through at one club before stepping up to bigger clubs.
Obviously there are exceptions.

Our academy is nothing to write home about TBH. Gibbs is not even really starting now, the Coq was about to be dumped until we had a crisis, Iwobi the court is still out but maybe. Wilshere, not much of a return yet, Bellerine yes.

Still we now have Adams in charge of the 18 year olds and Bould still our great influential assistant manager.

I think you're being kind, but okay... you mightn't expect all your players to come through your academy but you should expect some and furthermore the ones that do come through ours by-and-large end up playing in the championship or lower.

Anyway the point is that Henry is a club legend who is motivated not only to do well but to do so at our club. I can't imagine the coaching gig pays very much and not in the same category as punditry. Surely it's more important to us- given what I've already said about the quality of our academy- to get any of his time than it is to do whatever is going on here that's lead him to leave us?

The coaching gig Henry already said he would do for free.

The fabled Arsenal youth system has not lived up to the hype, that is quite clear to anyone.

Only if you have unrealistic expectations of what an academy does

Not really, firstly yes it needs to produce first team players, which of course Arsenal have managed to do with their academy.

But has it produced any top top class players? I am sure i am forgetting one worthy of that title but ultimately given the hype it hasn't.

Our academy has be Been most dissapointing in its return. Don't lose your argument relating to how many WC players have come from it. FFS we can't even produce a striker lol

We sold you a young striker from our academy with a good injury record and you gave him the Arsenal curse within months

Who? Can only think of Welbeck coming from United and he had loads of injuries at United. And is a wide player.

Anyway, interesting as the thread is about Henry our greatest striker who has just parted his way with us. TBH, Henry of our modern era has been our greatest ever player!

Valid points from both sides. Just depends how much Henry wants it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Turns out he didn't want it that badly. Disappointed.

Is an U-18 coaching job hard to get without special treatment? Can't help but feel Henry is passing up a great opportunity here.
