Absolutely correct.
We do tend to forget how good Giggs was though back in the day and I think he was better than Bale at his best. In those days United played with two strikers so goals from wide were not as required. Now, with players like Bale playing in a front three you expect them to get more goals.
Bale comfortably, Giggs was at a very high level for a long time but was never world class.
Bale by a mile, he has a final ball, something Giggs severely lacked. If Giggs was right footed he'd have been a squad player at United.
The problem with this is people have very short memories, GIggs was absolutely world class, he wasnt coveted by all the big teams in Italy (at a time when they were actually good) for no reason. In the 90s he was one of the best wingers in world football.

Bale...scores more. Does more...
Giggs was in an amazing United Team.
I've never seen Giggs carry the responsibility of the Welsh team nor function in a below average team like Bale did when he nearly single handedly got us to the Champions league.
Bale. He'll be remembered as the better player and person when it's all wrapped up.
Bale, but to Giggs was world class.
Bale will never score a goal like Giggs did againt Arsenal
"In my opinion his longevity and winning record has become his legacy, rather than his individual brilliance."
Agreed
Absolutely fantastic player, won pretty much everything that there was to win at club level, regular starter in one of the most successful English teams, model professional, excellent excellent player.
But... in terms of technique and ability, I think Bale is better. But he needs to keep on winning in order to be remembered as better than Giggs. If he won nothing else now, it wouldn't be close.
Both very good. Giggs in the 90s was unstoppable when he wasn't injured. I'd probably go for Bale at his very best but Giggs was more consistent imo
Wow. There seem to be some very young people here who have no idea how good Giggs was in his prime.
Not world class? Squad player? Sorry but you guys are clueless imo.
Diafol is correct. At his best, Giggs was better than Bale. I agree with the rest of what he said as well.
United easily had the best midfield in the 90s - Giggs, Keane, Scholes, Beckham...And the best player in that midfield was Ryan Giggs by a feckin' mile.
In terms of technique Giggs was better than Bale. Bale is a more effective player, though, and has now reached a level I don't think Giggs did as an individual.
Bale but Giggs in full flow was a far,far better player to watch. The way he'd weave in and out of defenders with such grace is something I think football is missing nowadays.

Stupid comment
The most praise Giggs got was in his mid to late thirties, for nostalgic reasons. In his prime he was quality but never regarded as one of the world's best like Bale is now.
Bale is a national here in Wales and rightly so but he does have games where he constantly plays the wrong final ball or shoots when he should pass.
We'll give him that of course for what he brings to the national side but for me I think Giggs just shades it.
The whole national side arguement, im not claiming to be an expert of the Welsh side in the 90s, but id take a good guess that the Welsh side we are seeing now is a hell of alot more talented than the one Giggs would have played in.
Bale is a great player but he has never wowed me like Giggs when facing a defender.
To this day Giggs is one of the best ever players I've seen live running with the ball at his feet.
So many ignorant people here that easily forget how amazing Giggs was in the 90's.
