Not really sure how 'the left' have done anything when very little resembling left wing politics has been in government in the last 37 years on both sides of the Atlantic.

Even when Democrats and Labour have been in power in that period, they haven't done much to pander to the left. Far more pandering to the right and Neo-Liberalism.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
? we had Labour in power for 12-13 years from 1997 and it was a total disaster and they deliberately tried to change the demographics of Britain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely the subject was 'the left'? Not Blair's sham 'New' Labour Party.

Because they bend the truth, not break them.

Hillary
Assumption: Ban all guns
Reality: provide more restrictions into getting guns

Trump
Assumption: Racist because he wants to deport Mexicans and Mexicans are criminals
Reality: Wants to deport illegal immigrants with a criminal record and secure the border
--------------------------------

The "assumption" about Trump is far closer to the truth of his actual statements in the Republican primaries. Even in the general election cycle, he was doubling down on claims he'd deport all illegals. Only close to Election Day did he start trying to pivot.

I do not agree, the problem the left faces is that it uses facts. The right is more prone to "feelings."**

you couldnt be more wrong, lefties are hopelessly emotive in everything they say and do, hysterically emotive in fact!

the right uses logic but as logic sometimes offends the status quo and what the 'flock' are told to think so it is seen as extreme.

The left has some wonderful ideas but they are not practical in today's modern world and they live their lives now to be 'offended' and 'outraged' by something which is quite sad.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Seriously couldn't believe when he said the left doesn't run on feelings lmao.

Those that don't vote don't care enough to vote.

The turn out in the referendum was 72%.

So 28% weren't bothered, they certainly weren't angered by PC to the point of wanting to leave the EU as some kind of protest. So those 28% plus the 34.5% who voted to stay, means 62.5% majority.

The minority voted to leave 37.5%, and they definitely haven't been silent about it, been doing nothing but moan for years before and since.

In the US, 49% didn't vote last week, and more of the rest voted for Clinton than Trump, so again, the majority weren't interested in his hideous brand of politics.

Those that did vote for Trump were nowhere near a majority, and again have been anything but silent.

I will Vote labour strictly because I can't stand Torres and their policy's.

The fact they've sold off 700 million to virgin Larry in terms of terms of the health service is a disgrace.

Need to save the NHS.

Don't think Corbin will win though

The truth is both sides can get hysterical. Go ask the early celeb critics of the Iraq war in the U.S how they got on. Clearly, their "free speech" was inconvenient for the same jingoists who claim to treasure free speech most. Ask the Dixie Chicks for example how they got on with the country music base.

In the first Primaries debate, he said he was going to look for a way to deport all CRIMINAL illegals that are "raping, burning, etc" our country. His website outlined a lot of his policies and ideas from the get go and I took a slow day in the office to carefully read a lot of it. It's in line with all the stuff he has been "doubling" down to recently.

It's quite interesting when you reference earlier comments, and get them wrong. It shows what you actually see when you read a comment.

"What's people's issue with deporting illegal immigrants?"

Pretty sure no-one has much of a problem with deporting illegal immigrants.

No they weren't, but she is barely left wing either, so again, how is the left stopping debate exactly?

Real left wing ideas are not even allowed to be part of the debate, let alone stopping it.

The debate is just centre vs hard right.

Some of you would be happier if the Germans had won the war I think.

From your comfy, privileged zone, I'm sure it means nothing. To many of those who possess some empathy, deporting millions of people with decades and several years long deep roots and families in the U.S is hardly a moral choice.

I think the bigger issue is the lies from politicians in order to get votes which people fall for. For me it's the same as false advertising which is illegal. Why is it legal for politians to lie which sways the opinion of many of the general public?

£350m going to the NHS, immigration ended. Next day after the Brezit vote admitting it won't happen. Seems like a lie to me, in order to get the votes of those who fell for it, then admitting the truth when votes for. Of course there are many more examples. You may see it as bending the truth, I see it as downright lies and many either don't have the intelligence to know it's lies or don't want to know.

posted on 14/11/16

Sorry TOORs, I don't have enough knowledge on Brexit to contribute anything on that front. Maybe the immigration issue was relating to those coming in from the regions with suspected terrorist activities?

Trump has said he's going to start with "two, maybe three million" immigrants.

That's more than twice as many people as there are immigrants in the US with criminal records. And that includes people who have been resident in the US, legally, for years.

So where does the other half (and the rest) he's going to deport come from?

Absolutely slaughtered them. Really admire the DC for their stance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What stance? They said it in London and literally backtracked one week later when it hit their pocket.

Coz, like many on the right, clearly there's an empathy gap.
