You look at the success Mkhi had at Dortmund, he was in a free flowing Dortmund side full of attacking verve and players making runs ahead of him like Auba and Reus. He was sensational. Today he was alongside Rooney and mata who aren't of that ilk pace wise. To get the best out of Mkhi I think we need a different type of player around him and a different tactical set up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not just the style of player, though.
Dortmund have been coached to play off the ball in a very open system. Ours is more regimented so the runners just aren't there.
The weird thing about Micky is that Jose signed him so must have had an idea about what he would bring.
Pogba has all the talent in the world but with the way we set up if you want him in a 3 you have to sacrifice the number10 spot and let him have a free role with 2 wingers and a striker. If he develops and can fit into a 2 our options going forward will be much improved and diverse.
Elvis, yeah I agree. But I don't think we'd have seen that former style of football with either of Rashford or Martial leading the line.

What you could manage is not relevant to the point is it?
As for Martial, I don't see him as a #9. He's more a winger imo
---------------------
I was 19, he is 19. He's much fitter than I ever was. Why is it not relevant?
You could be right about Martial, perhaps he is more of a winger. Still an option as a striker though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because the level you played at is completely different to the level he plays at.
jose wants fresh players, not ones playing at the edge of their capabilities against a side who have rested players for the past few weeks
-------------------------------
What does the level matter? We both ran around for 90 minutes and gave everything we had. At 19 I could get up the following day and do it again, no problem. Most of my mates did too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It really isn't the same thing.
-----------------
Why not? He won't be any more tired than me when I'd played 90 minutes. And he has much better conditions for recover than I ever had.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because he's playing against fitter people than you ever did so in the world of small margins it makes sense to not make him play 3 games in 8 days against players who will be playing 2 games in 8 days.
Small margins
--------------------
Yes he is playing fitter people than me. But he is fitter than I was. So he is playing people of his level of fitness, as I was.

That's true for a few of your players tbh, they suit slightly different styles, which is what happens when there's a turnover of managers and without an underlying consistent direction in terms of playing style.
We've had it too but more down to our dof being hugely inconsistent.

He needs to move away less from emphasis on man management, and more towards tactics. His tactics really could do with some updating to, as in recent years he has struggled to find the balance between attack and defence. Part of the reason we were so awful under him in the final year, was that as a team we were horribly unbalanced.
Said it a couple of months ago with Martial, I think he needs to leave. Completely agree with your summary. I think he's got the bigger talent but will require the most work to accomplish it. He definitely needs a different type of manager.

I disagree. 4 days or 7 days rest doesn't make any difference to you when you are 19 years old.
I think he needs a manager that will make a huge point of coaching his off the ball talents. Because at the moment it's not very good, he wants the ball to feet in front of the defender more than running in behind when that option is there. Klopp or Tuchel would be good for him actually.

Interesting you say that because it parallels the main improvement of Hazard this year.
Jose managed to use his man management to get more commitment out of Eden. However, as a player in some ways he stagnated, as he never really developed his off the ball movement. Conte has improved this aspect of his play a lot this season, and you see him making smarter runs in behind.
Again this is the problem with Mourinho, in that going forward he doesn't give much instruction. This can often hinder particular young talents.
Yep Pep too. Anyone think the Henry comparisons might have gone to his head? He seems to have modelled his on the ball style in that left hand channel on him(not in his league obviously) but seems to ignored the fact Henry's movement off the ball was superb.
With Liverpool dropping point, i thought we would have changed our approach
I think Rashford will go on to be a much better player than Martial
Rashford just seems to have that X Factor. Now he's added free kicks as well he's gonna score some great goals.
I can see Martial at someone like Sevilla in a few seasons sadly
Broaquin, yeah for sure. I alluded to this in an earlier post on how Mourinho's coaching with attackers is to get bigger performances from what they already posses rather than developing other areas of their game.
Hazard was a superb talent already. Under Mourinho his performance levels just went up.
In the case of Martial, where it's a huge weakness, I don't think Mourinho's the right coach. But if he can get bigger performances then great.
However, I do get the feeling it's a flaw of Martial's own too. I guess until we see him in a different environment we cannot judge exactly where the fault comes.
Not the worst place for him, Sevilla. Especially with Sampaoli there.

I think with Martial is that he has not been able to focus. The guy was a obvious talent, and having watched him last year I was very envious of United.
He hasn't adjusted well to the change at United, maybe he has not bought into the style of management Jose offers.
I feel Martial could benefit from a change of formation. Playing in a 3-4-3, he would find himself in more central areas without affecting the width of the team.
For me he will probably go onto being a very good striker. His attitude needs improving, but the ability is definitely there. Maybe he has more similarities to Anelka, than to Henry
