The one player I'm absolutely confident wouldn't be sold.

Poch absolutely loves him and even changed our formation to accommodate him.

Oh and any fee for levy to sell would be absolutely insane

Most times I've watched him he's drifted between being the DM and being part of a back 3, which in relation to how we play isn't much use.

Don't really know just how good he is as a pure DM, but he seemed quite limited in his forward passing for England on the rare occasion I saw him.

It wholly depends on whether we want to replace Carrick with a ball playing DM to read the game and get our attacks started, or a more defensively adept tackler/destroyer or whatever you may call it.

If we're after the former, then I don't think he's close to being good enough, if it's the latter then I haven't seen enough of him to say.

Very useful player to have in a squad though, but for £40+ you need more than that.

Good DM, crap CB.

He's better than Pogba

Looks like Carrick's replacement?

He's a good player but if there's anyone in the Spurs side they can improve on it's him.

Would I want him? Wouldn't be too fussed either way tbh. We need cm who are decent and he's certainly decent.

I wouldn't spend over £25 mil on him however.

So we see Debele and Winyama and we want Dier? Beautiful! Just beautiful!

Carrick, when deployed in a midfield three, often drops in to act as a third auxiliary centreback when our fullbacks (Valencia and Young in particular) get forward to support attacks.

It's a role Dier could perform, and would suit his shared experience between the DCM and CB roles well.

Whether he has the ability with the ball at his feet to free up both Herrera and Pogba - as Carrick does - is another matter.

I'd be very happy if we signed him, although I'd say firstly that the likelihood of that happening is very remote, and secondly that it'd be something of a risky move expecting him to come in to replace Carrick like-for-like and deliver performances of an equivalent standard.

Very good young player though, and something like the kind I'd like to see replacing Carrick, rather than some shin-kicking ogre.

Agree with that Rosso, I wouldn't be against it but really couldn't see it happening.

One thing for sure is his mobility and work rate would bit a huge plus in replacing Carrick, and could somewhat negate the lack of experience he has compared to him to begin with.

Would cost about £60m when he is worth about £30m.

Would I sign him? Yes.

For the prices involved? No.

True.

I'd be most concerned about the amount of fetching and carrying it'd leave Pogba to do, as we've seen when Herrera has been deployed as the CDM.

I want to see Pogba used a little more sparingly, kept fresh, and stationed upfield where he can do most damage.

With the right full backs it's something I'd hope to see more off too.

Jose has done it in previous clubs. but we don't have the likes of Marcelo, Ivanovic, Cole, Maicon etc

Was very impressed with mendy last night. Monaco hugely missed him in the first leg. Of all the Monaco players we've been linked with I think he would improve us the most.

Don't see what the problem is here. Levy absolutely loves it. He'll squeeze every penny out of Man Utd, I am sure of that

Is he the left back? Looks impressive if so.

We badly miss Valencia on the right when he doesn't play, and even his end product is lacking but he makes a difference.

Need someone to be his equal on the left, it's a key position for how we are trying to play.

Eric Dier!!! Seriously?
I can think of about 10 midfielders we should get before him. He us a bit of a carthorse if you ask me.
No thanks

This is one reason why I really want to see CBJ and Riley given a crack of the whip this summer.

Both love to get forward and have the ability to deliver wicked crosses.

It's also a reason why I've been so pleased about Rojo's seeming rebirth and Blind being given some games at CB, because without wanting to sound like a certain retired Dutch gentleman, if we're going to play with attacking fullbacks on occasion, it's useful to have left footed players with strong experience at left back playing in the centre of defence.

We all do, then where does that leave Mata and Mkhi? For me they're just not suited/ good enough in the wide right role.

I'll settle with you naming 10 DM midfielders we should buy ahead to Dier tbh.

Go....
