I don’t get why some people are panicking about the winter and covid deaths when we’re at the same level of cases as January more or less but with 10% of the deaths?

same level of cases as january with zero restrictions and obviously people tend to social outside in the months of Dec, Jan, Feb it's pure outdoor fun!

We’re at 50k cases now but around 150 deaths compared to 1500 when we were last getting 50k daily cases.

There's lots of informed and uninformed ways of looking at it.

On 19th October last year we we're gearing up for the tier system with 50k cases and 80 deaths

Today with a vaccinated nation it's however many cases and 250odd deaths and no restrictions, not even a mask mandate

These numbers will get higher, let's look at it without politics or ideology

I’m not looking at it ideologically, just numbers.

10% of the deaths that we were getting with similar case numbers is a great result for the first year with vaccines

I won’t ever support gunning for zero covid. People are still dying and that’s sad but it’s reality unfortunately

I think a big problem this winter will be that the vaccine immunity is waning and the rollout to the most vulnerable is very very slow. This could lead to a huge upsurge in deaths.

Not to mention that with the under 50s not getting boosters and their immunity also waning, there is an inevitability of more hospitalisations in that group. Grim

Zero covid is impossible if we're not going to vaccinate the whole world but 200 deaths a day and rising exponentially while doing nothing to arrest that rise is clearly insane and track record says a lockdown that comes too late is too Draconian and goes on too long as a result

Living with covid means mitigating or transferring the risk not just ignoring it and hoping it goes away... Because it doesn't

Sometimes these spikes do just plateau and eventually dip though 🤞
