If the protocol impacts people negatively in NI, should 54% remain voting NI suck it up?

Have you read the GFA?

Do you understand the made up irish sea border breaks the spirit at least of the GFA, according to its leading architect, Lord Trimble?

All unionists, many remain voters, reject the protocol, so the EU and uk govt need to least tweek things to enable trade and food supplies!

Time to “suck it up” and deal with the (inevitable) consequences of our actions.

On wanting to be English.

I was active for years in Ulster Independence movement to be free from London and Dublin...

I am happy to have an Irish and Ulster British identity at the same time, similar to Carson for example, with irish unIonist and british heritage!

Being English is not a bad thing, even though some think so, but i am not English or trying to be.

I thought we had all moved on, but some in orange and green obviously prefer old bigotry and tribalism still😞

We did not vote tory and the protocol in the end was rushed tnrough by bojo to get brexit done for the December 2019 election.

Should we back boris on this?

None of us voted for boris and if his deal with the eu is not working for NI, suck it up is not good enough.

Constitutionally, politically and relating to security and business and food meds supp!ies, the present situation has problems for NI citizens!

If the GFA is about anything, it is about respect for both sides..... and if All unionsts, many remainers, and people, business in NI suffer, that is just wrong!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi TBAB, hope you're well.

Trimble is another one who has weaponised the GFA.

He voted for, (in the house of lords) and championed the NIP/WA yet now (in the face of unionist unrest) states it violates the GFA.

"Lord Trimble: Brexit deal 'is a great step forward and within spirit of Good Friday Agreement'"

https://amp.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/lord-trimble-brexit-deal-is-a-great-step-forward-and-within-spirit-of-good-friday-agreement-38609545.html

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/10/18/lord-trimble-urges-dup-vote-boris-johnsons-brexit-deal-does/amp/

And now...

"the astonishing and disturbing fact is that the Withdrawal Agreement and, in particular, the Protocol clearly rips the Good Friday Agreement apart.”

That was a major issue and economically, i have no utopian answer.........above my pay grade!

We do pay in too of course and forty years of civil strife creates economic problems, hence help from uk govt.

We would not have been fully indy and going forward i forsee a federal Ireland arrangement!
